What do you guys put on cuts while you are hunting or fishing this time of the year and in the marsh? Vibrio is still hanging around and I was wondering what you guys keep in your blind bag or on the boat as an antiseptic. Heard some guys keep a mix of peroxide and alcohol. Just curious.

I would recommend keeping a small bottle with you that consist of 9 parts water, one part alcohol. Really just irrigate the cut and bandage it if possible. Any topical won't hurt like neosporon, bacitracin, etc.

We keep Betadine in the boat, but it’s messy. The most critical thing is cleaning the wound with soap and water. Even just flushing immediately with fresh clean water can make a difference if you don’t have anything else. I think hibiclense is a great idea to use to wash it and plan to start keeping that in the boat.

Clorox. Same thing I keep in the shower at home. Not sure if it does anything, but my shower is clean and I haven't been hospitalized for any cuts.

I used to keep a pretty good first aid kit when I ran my dogs during duck season so it’s always been second nature to have one on hand and it absolutely starts with alcohol initially, which I usually use the wipes since if it is a cut it is probably bleeding and I can apply some pressure to potentially get it controlled. I’m pretty anal about having plenty of wet wipes for field dumps just in case so that’s my backup if I have something bleeding worse than that and obviously we are probably heading to the ER asap if that can’t control it. Then it is Hibiciens if the bleeding is under control. Then the next step is getting the cut bandaged. I carry bandaids for trivial cuts and tape/gauze for bigger stuff and also Liquid Bandage.

Vaseline will keep it moist & decrease scarring…

Vaseline is fine for surface protection but does nothing for bacterial infection. I use it every time I burn myself though and it does work to protect and prevent scarring

there have been five Louisiana deaths this year so far due to vibrio. The days of slapping a piece of duct tape on it and continuing on are over for me

I think that if you have a compromised immune system, maybe you need an antibiotic cream. But for someone with a healthy immune system, I really don’t see any need for it. I’ve been cut/scraped(even shot) in 37 different countries and lived to tell about it…

Completely agree, but you never know what you don't know. Maybe you have something lurking that hasn't been diagnosed yet. Just saying. I'm typically the "rub some dirt on it" type, but as I get older I at least TRY to think about it
