Went to dc for a baseball game and National

Guard troops were clustered all over the city. The area was so peaceful and quiet.
The streets are walkable and pleasant. Even had a couple interactions with the troops.

Probably better ways to utilize our National Guard and military then to order them to hang out in public places so people like OP can overcome their irrational fears. DC felt safe in 2023 when family visited.

Yeah was in NOLA around super bowl and took my time to thank the guard. They seemed like a bunch of good ole baws.
