Gas pumps running slower than years past

Seems to me like fuel is not being dispensed as quickly as before.
One theory is that gas stations are doing this to keep you on the property longer because of the chance you will walk in the store and purchase the highly profitable drink, jerky, or junk.
Do you agree with this theory?
Bonus: Not providing a credit card receipt at the pump also (can) force you to walk in the store and possible make another purchase. Plus they don’t have to spend time (money) keeping the pump printer working.

I always attribute it to poor maintenance on their systems but i wouldn't be shocked if it wasn't intentional.

It's because they don't change the damn filters and the pumps are clapped out.

They don’t change the filters and it runs slow. Go somewhere else that maintains their pumps properly.

I think that theory makes more sense for the receipt printer. I don't think it makes sense on pump speed. If I find myself at an unreasonably slow pump, I'm not more likely to walk inside; I'm more likely to say "frick this, half a tank is fine" and leave.

This is Rainman level of attention to detail. Kudos, I guess.

Agreed. Sometimes it takes 10 seconds to fill and sometimes it feels like I could piss it in there faster

I could show you one 5 miles from my house that pumps about a gallon an hour. It's a clapped piece of shite.
I buy fuel locally strictly based off of which ones have the best kept pumps, price be damned.

in my experience diesel pumps way faster than gas pumps.....i guess it just depends on the station
and I drive close to 40k miles a year just for reference

The "Please See Cashier" prompt because they won't take cards is a sure-fire way to see no business.

Or the paper used for the receipt is expensive and states like California have created laws and Propositions, look up Cali Prop 65, against the type paper these machines use.

They have to. Many vehicles you can’t pump gas fast into with the evap valves and purge solenoids in the vent system. All emissions requirements again.
If you pump it fast into some of these vehicles, it will kick the nozzle off.

good chance it's the car's EVAP system, vent valve or charcoal canister get's clogged and impedes the necessary air flow.

I'll try one other pump cluster. If I see the same message, I'm gone.

Ethanol is the devil. Fill up at an ethanol free station and note how much faster it is. It causes more debris to come loose and clog filter.
I drive 6 from my house miles to fill up with ethanol free premium and get at least 2-3 mpg better in the city and 3+ better on the highway, roughly 20% better gas milage.

I have noticed that many places will require you to go inside if paying with AMEX.
I always thought they were trying to discourage it because of higher fees.

You know institutional trust is sky high when the gas station corporate overlords are passively accused of conspiring to slow pump your gas to get you to buy big gulps and roller dogs.
