Allie Rice, a 21-year-old LSU student, was tragically shot and killed in 2022 in Baton Rouge. My heartfelt condolences go out to her family and friends as they continue to honor her life and carry her spirit forward.

Are they just going to run with the "killer may be dead" forever without presenting a shred of evidence for this? This is all I've heard for quite a while. This investigation has been a failure

From the onset, the case never got proper attention/consideration. Running with “the killer is dead” is just a cop out and cover for a lackluster investigation.

Exactly. Everyone who says this presents it as they heard it from someone like it’s a fact but I’ve yet to hear anything past that.

Agreed. It's honestly a bit embarrassing to be publicly stating that when it is so obvious that they don't have a fricking clue about what happened. Maddening.

The investigation has certainly yielded no results, but this was going to be extremely challenging from the onset with a very low likelihood of being solved.

Random shooting, middle of the night, from one vehicle into another, likely by a hood rat that has no friends that would rat on him and likely with a stolen gun, potentially in a stolen car.

Terribly sad. Not defending the police, but even if they did everything right, it would've been extremely challenging.

ETA:

But the talk track of "he may be dead" instead of just saying they have no leads is pretty infuriating.

I thought they were on foot?

Can we bring back Harry Lee and just make him governor?

Do we know that? Maybe so, I forget. Point still stands and honestly that might make it even harder. They wouldn't have a chance of surveillance ID'ing a vehicle and they would've just run back into the hood and disappear.

For the most part, I think BRPD has some very hard working and dedicated officers. Some genuine heroes that put their lives on the line everyday and should be lauded and celebrated. But I think through the years, the department has taken enough steps back as a whole to be far less effective than 40-50 years ago. It isn't necessarily anyone's fault. This has happened all over the country honestly. Shittier cops, shittier policing, shittier detective work.

I think they're doing the best they can but their best isn't enough to solve crimes like this. They can't do it. They don't have the resources. They don't have the old school gumshoe practices that solve crimes like this here. It's all institutional, academic book bullshite now and I don't think the people on staff understand it.

Allie Rice will be a forever cold case. But if BRPD can somehow solve it, I'll be the first in line to give them praise. I'm rooting for them. I give money to the fraternal order of police on the reg and will continue to do so. I think they protect us and keep us safe. But I don't think they have what it takes to solve crimes like this.

What evidence do you have of this?

They worked the case but there isn't much in terms of useful evidence. It happens sometimes. If there isn't any evidence, solving the case is going to be extremely difficult if not impossible. Basically they have to wait for the forensics to "hit" someone arrested later who gets their biometrics in the system.

Per my source in the Baton Rouge judicial system..

They knew / know who did it. It was one thug, and it was gang related. That same thug went on to rob another "store" in Baton Rouge and was shot dead.

Why they cannot announce that to the public I don't know.

Assuming its true, they likely have circumstantial evidence (street chatter) or forensics that would only put him at the location and can't prove (in the legal sense) that he murdered her.

I haven't even heard of them having a suspect at all.

Its crazy that this day and age someone can do this and just get away with it without a single trace

Why are they not allowed to put those circumstantial evidence in the public view? Concern that if not the real killer it further hurts the investigation?

When people say we have too many people in prison we actually don't have enough.

The murderer(s) are potentially just roaming the streets right now.
