Anyone celebrating the Kirk murder is a sick individual. But it's kind of ironic that people are now scouring social to find anyone posting anything about it and then emailing their employers.

Anyone stupid enough to post a celebratory post of a murder in this political environment has very questionable judgment but this isn't really much different than left wing loons scouring twitter for "offensive" jokes years ago or canceling anyone they disagree with.

Personally, I think cancel culture is fricking retarded on both sides. Free speech is fine but FAFO, but I don't like people actively Narcing on everyone. Let the employers find out the old fashioned way and decide what to do rather than "Demanding action!"

Social media is just the worst. Nothing but tribalisitic hypocrites.

Update: I understated when I said it isn't "that different" to celebrate a murder than to dig up old offensive jokes. I think there is a difference and one is clearly worse than the other.

My point in all of this was to discuss the slippery slope we're on now as a society where everyone is actively pursuing opportunities to frick over those who disagree with them and that both sides do now actively engage in it.

Personally, I think it's great that one side is starting to fight back.

Getting fired because you publicly celebrated the assassination of a public figure isn't "cancel culture." This has always been the norm.

That's not cancel culture.

Cancel Culture is right wing activists wanting The View taken off of the air for everyone as opposed to not watching it.
Wanting the hosts and everyone involved with the show to be held accountable for what they say is another issue.

A bunch of people will be here in 30 seconds to tell you that this is “not” the same as cancel culture

Despite it being exactly what the left does during situations like this.

To be clear, I’m not saying it’s not what they “deserve” or anything. To be honest I don’t care. If you post shite on social media, you are responsible for the outcome.

But to say this isn’t cancel culture is just being one-sided

It’s flirting with being illegal to have an opinion.

The frustrating thing is those piling on (happens with both sides) prob didn’t even know who Kirk was prior to Wednesday.

I guess. I'd just prefer to let the idiots speak for themselves rather than engaging in a never ending tit for tat.

How many hundreds of posts on this very board complained about thought police but as soon as the script is flipped...

People like you have emboldened progressives. We are done with rules for one side.

You bought the ticket, you get to take the ride.

They made their bed, now they can lay in it.

Because it isn't. I guarantee you would have gotten fired for publicly celebrating the assassinations of JFK or MLK, or for publicly celebrating the assassination attempt against Ronald Reagan or even against Richard Nixon. This isn't "cancel culture." It's normal.

Can you point to an example? I think you can't.

The difference is the left was digging up stupid comments from decades ago to silence people who simply didn't think the way they wanted.

You want people who celebrate the assassination of the leader of conservative thought in young people to be teaching young people?

If you cant see the difference between speaking out about vaccine mandates, supporting a particular person for president and literally cheering a political assassination of a young father and husband then theres no reason to engage you in the topic and continue discord

And I think it's fricking abhorrent for people to celebrate. It's crazy and I don't get it.

If there is a difference, I would say that offensive words or jokes < than celebrating murder, but at the end of the day, it's a very slippery slope.

And what way was that?

Someone bringing it to their attention?

Same thing, it just happens a whole lot bigger and faster now.
