Question about weighted vest

I've been walking 5-10 miles a day with a 30# weighted vest for a while. I recently started hitting the weights again. Should I use the weighted vest for my walk the day after leg day or will that not allow the necessary rest? Hills are involved on the walks.

Rucking is low intensity enough to not overwhelm my legs after a leg day. I find it more core activating/stabilizing than anything. I also prefer a 40# weighted backpack ruck for the help with posture. That said, if it’s a heavy RDL/squat leg day, I may take a shorter walk than on other days.

You’re walking like 4 hours a day?

Your math is wrong

It takes me an hour and 15 to do 5. If I have time like on days off I do more.

Thanks, I’ll probably lighten the load slightly and see how it goes.

At a 3mph pace (which isn't that brisk) 1 mile is 20 minutes. Sounds like baw is walking in the 2-3 hour range.

I’ve been doing 4.5 mile walks in the evening with an old camping backpack stuffed with 50lbs of weights I’ve had since 95. With that and a mostly carnivore diet, I’ve dropped 18lbs since July. Ideally I want to start to do early mornings as well before I leave for work.

I usually start around 4-4:30. I don’t sleep well so I just said frick it, I’ll exercise. My pace is around 3.5-4 mph. I’ll jog sometimes up the hills but I can’t run a lot cuz my left knee is shot. I’ll go 2.5 hrs on the weekends or days off when I’ll hit the 10 mile mark. It’s not often but it happens. Most days it’s 5. Put on an audiobook and just go. Usually back to the house around 6-6:15 to make sure the kids make it to the bus. None of which is relevant to the original question.

I don't think it will inhibit proper rest to do your weighted vest walk the day after your leg day, but others may know better than me. For me, its more of a shoulder burn than anything, but like I said, mine has the weights stuffed in the bottom of a backpack… it feels like dead weight strapped to my shoulders, which it is.

I’ve been more “animal based” than strict carnivore for the last two and half years, I dropped 30 pounds and kind of plateaued for a while. Started rucking 4 months ago averaging 20 miles per week with 2-3 days of HIIT workouts per week. I’ve dropped another 30 pounds and now down to 210, lightest I’ve been since junior year of high school and playing ball.
I started rucking with a 5.11 tactical bag and recently upgraded to the Rucker 4.0, it’s made a huge difference. Now consistently doing 4 miles at a 14 minute pace with 55#.

Congrats! That’s awesome. Rucking works. Also, never can go wrong eating mostly good protein.

Rucking is the best, because you can make yourself overcome suffering for long periods of time. That's the best benefit. I can't justify a Rucker when I still have my LC-1, which feels almost like a safety blanket.
Overcome suffering, put it out of your mind, just go. The fact that rucking crushes so many Green Beret candidates is amazing to me. This is what the next few hours will be, and it will be so. No amount of complaining is going to make it go away, so stop thinking about it and just do it.
The GoRuck boots are legit, too. There are clearly soles that are more urban focused vs. all terrain, but there is zero break in BS like what we used to do with filling the boot with \boiling water to break it in faster, etc.

Agreed. I can put a podcast or music on and just zone out for an hour and before I know it I am 4 miles in and soaking wet. The low impact has helped me tremendously because I hate running and always had little injuries.
