OFFICIAL HOME ROBOT THREAD - Vacs, lawnmowers, pool cleaners, etc.

where are we on the map, baws?
i personally loved my dolphin when i had a pool and feel it was pretty much close to perfect in its ability to do its job.
until my recent roborock purchase, i wasn't sold on robot vacs because i felt they were little more than a gimmick. granted i was way behind on the tech, but w/ AI and the smart mapping features, i would say my Q8 is finally to a point where i can say it is doing its job with minimal coaxing/hassle.
i was sitting at a red light this week and noticed a lawnmower robot doing someone's yard and in the 30 seconds i was sitting there, it seemed to be doing a decent job moving around obstacles and keeping the lines straight. my yard is way too big and hilly that i don't think its a consideration at this point, but would love to hear others' experiences.
what other robots do you consider mature at this point? we have
- camera robot drones that hear noise/motion and go fly around to investigate
- optimus? not quite ready for prime time
- sexbots?

I like mowing my grass so a robot mower isn't really on the table but I was playing golf a few months ago and a guy on the golf course had his robot mower going and on the two holes/30 minutes or so we were able to see it, it was like a stuck in the corner roomba and got about maybe 50 square feet of grass mowed in that time frame.
That kind of sold me on not getting one

my intuition kind of makes me think the same. but i was way behind on the ai features of floor vacs and the fact the roborock is able to nuke areas of the house where it gets stuck with NO intervention from me kind of piqued my interest and wondering where we are with other applications.

A family at the front of our neighborhood has one- not sure what brand. If I’m out walking at the right time I see it at work. I often can’t tell where it has cut and where it hasn’t. And when I can, it seems closer to the first gen Roomba than a modern mapping system. Looks pretty random. In theory I think they are cool. In reality, they aren’t there yet.

I would bet mine is larger.
I bought the mammotion 5000 to keep the front acre clear. It says it has a max of 1.25
Turns out it can have a bunch of zones. If you do a single cut (not a checkerboard style), it can mow two acres a day. I currently have it encroaching on an additional two acres. And as soon as that's low enough, I'm pointing it at another two.
I think 4-6 will be the limit for this one.
When I add a second.... It's on. Then it's crossing the road into the front pasture.
It is GPS and lidar. Works great. Currently cutting a 68 degree checkerboard into the yard.

The one limitation i discovered today is just its a hassle to switch zones.
So... They are sending me a 10000.
That's actually kind of the weird part, it hasn't gotten stuck a single time.
I walked the perimeter rather than Let It Auto learn, other than that it has kind of been just set it and swap zones. With the 10,000 I shouldn't need to swap zones at all. It'll be able to mow 150 ft in the front, and then a very large distance behind me. The only thing I did actually have to have is a no-go Zone to avoid the upcoming Bluey Halloween decorations

I have a Dolphin Quantum pool cleaner and its great. Does a good job a couple times a week. I dont think it is gets everything like my manual vac set up but it gets 90% of the sand which is why I use it. I have a pool enclosure so only the plants I have inside drop leaves in our pool.... Not many
Wife has a rumba that is atleast 10-12 years old. I have rebuilt it once (Battery, brushes, etc). It works OK when we are not here. We do have a lot of places where it can get stuck and I still dont think it sweeps the floor as good as my manual sweeper.

i'm extremely happy with my roborock q8. best robovac i've ever owned. it has all the AI, lidar, room mapping stuff and it is still low-profile enough to fit under all the beds; the roomba just marked those areas as obstacles.
its the first robot vac i consider a legit replacement for our daily sweeping and vacuuming.

I have only had it for two weeks. It has charged no ledd than 40x as Im running it 24/7 to see if it was worth keeping.
I did by the little garage for it and I have it located about 25ft from the house in case it were to catch fire
It's mowing for the 5th time this weekend.
Doesn't need to, but I have it currently set to remow every single time it has finished and is fully charged.

It says they have a 30 day return policy - assuming that mean you can use it for 3-4 weeks and return right?
I have 6 acres and costing $500 per mow and even if I got a riding mower there is still blowing and weedeating and can't devote the time to do it all right myself anyway. That said, if a robot could take care of the mowing I could handle the edge stuff.

Yes. It'll do 3 acres. It wont do six unless you let it map every time.
I dont know how to get around this issue.

Not at all. Quieter than your in cab fan inside your truck.
You can here it from maybe 20 ft if there is zero ambient noise.

I enjoy cutting the grass too much to let a robot do it, my only experience with it is someone a few streets over has one and it does a terrible job. It can't keep up with their postage stamp sized subdivision front yard, and theirs is the worst kept one around.
I'm surprised it's taken this long but they posted on the neighborhood group asking if anyone had camera footage, someone stole it in the middle of the night.
