Jesus. I hope I'm aware enough to not have a drink when I sit down to watch this or I'll fall to pieces.

Dead at 43 is insane.

An icon and legend. 43 is so young. I always thought he was in his 50's when this happened. Gus Polinski and The Kenosha Kickers

Damn. That dude lived hard. He's the same age as me when he died, and he looked like he was in his 50's. Looks like a good watch. I always liked John Candy.

Oh man this one is going to hurt.

I missed the SCTV stuff by a few years and bought the boxed set to watch when I was overseas.

Just wow, so funny and so much talent in that group but his bits always seemed a little better. If you havent seen the SCTV stuff do yourself a favor and you can see where it all started.

Can’t wait to watch.

I feel like John Candy was always appreciated but it’s taken on a new level the last few years as the 80’s & 90’s kids reached mid-life and could relate to his roles and movies that they grew up watching.

The guy was uber talented and didn’t have a schtick. Was so much more than just the funny “fat” guy. I think he would’ve eventually won an Oscar.

I'm a fan of Orson Welles, and one of the funniest impressions I've seen of him was done by John Candy:

Damn. I don't even think I've heard of SCTV. Maybe a few years back? But I forgot to go watch. It doesn't seem to be available on streaming, except some stuff on youtube.

I used to tape it on my Betamax, back in the early 80's. I thought it was much funnier than SNL then. Many of them are still active. My favorites were Bob and Doug McKenzie which became a movie. And it also was ripped off in Wayne's World. There was a fair bit of interplay between SCTV and SNL and a lot of the actors on both had their start at Second City comedy theater (both in Toronto and Chicago).

I used to watch it on Nick at Nite when I was a kid. Had some greats on there:

John Candy
Joe Flaherty
Eugene Levy
Rick Moranis
Andrea Martin
Catherine O'Hara
Martin Short

Splash will always be on of my all time personal favorites.

I’m guessing there’ll be a bit with Tom & John in there.

John Candy and Chris Farley we my two favorite comedy actors from my younger days. Both taken from us way too soon. Looks like I would ball watching that documentary. lol

Another program from that time frame that I used to like was called Fridays. It didn't have quite the loaded cast SCTV did they did have Larry David and Michael Richards. It was pretty good and had a pretty impressive list of guest musicians. It was a regular watch for me
