Waste Pro door to door sales scam?

Had a teenager or young 20 something year old kid going door to door on a hoverboard this evening try to get me to give him my card info on paper to switch to Waste Pro. He had a florescent vest with Waste Pro on it, but I’m fairly certain this was a scam, and told him to leave. Is this a thing or was he a piece of shite trying to steal info or scope out people’s homes?

Door to door is always a scam

Same thing with door to door alarm sales on foot. Couple weeks later theft throughout the neighborhood. Probably scoping shite out and documenting for the sweep.

Had an a-hole knock on my door last week acting like he knew the previous owner and then pointing up to my roof and telling me he was a certified roofing inspector and was just driving by and noticed how worn my roof was, blah, blah, blah.
I'm quite certain he got the point that it was time to leave and not come back when I nonchalantly eased my right hand around from behind my back and it was full of "get the hell off my property". Just had a weird feeling when he knocked and I looked through the peep hole...know what I mean?

By chance was the kid’s name Marty Jr. and this took place in 2015?

This is exactly what I'm thinking as well.

I wouldn't say always. We have a couple of HS kids that live in the neighborhood and they are always going around looking for small hustles for cash. They have done the paint the address on the curb, clean the garbage can, wash the driveway/sidewalk (but don't have a pressure washer), clear trash from the shed/garage...
I just tell them we're not interested, but when they get to the weed garden part of their hustle; make sure to knock on our door until we answer

We live about 25 miles east of the largest community of Irish Travelers in North America and probably the world. They normally do not shite where the eat but occasionally out of desperation they are forced to run the cons and scams locally instead of spreading out across the US and Canada beat folks out of their money. They do, of course, shop, go to restaurants and what not in the area and they are easily recognizable...if you have ever seen the reality show about them it is spot on...the women and even young girls look and dress like Hollywood mafia wives and girlfriends...they will go to Texas Roadhouse in pageant dresses....its what they do, the women are ALWAYS dressed as if they are in a beauty pageant...and a gracious plenty of them would be competitive, pretty good looking. If you live in the area you are accustomed to seeing them.
About 2 years ago I get home from work and there is a strange truck in the driveway. My the 83 year old Dad is the only one home. When I walk in the door there is a dude, obviously an Irish Traveler. pitching a Kirby Vacuum cleaner to my dad...and 2 more just like him upstairs vacuuming the house and no doubt finding anything worth stealing. I tell old boy we have a vacuum cleaner and it was time to leave. He realizes I am serious and calls his friends down stairs and they load up and leave. Normally one of them would pretend they were injured and want some cash to keep it quite but they could sense it wasn't going to work with us because I told them straight up if they injured themselves while they were there they were shite out of luck. They left without any issue. About 9 o'clock that night I hear a man's voice other than my Dad's downstairs, get a pistol out of the safe and go down and sure enough that dude is back in the house talking to my Dad. I ask him whats going on and he says he had come back to ask my Dad about a friend of his in Valley, Alabama. Apparently my Dad had been talking to this dude for about 3 hours when I got home and they both knew someone in Alabama. When he saw I had a pistol he suddenly remembered he had business elsewhere and left. My dad was PISSED at me for running his buddy off LOL. I do not know what he was up to but he was certainly up to no good. He has not been back but I am certain he was trying to con my dad out of some money somehow. For whatever reason he decided it was a dry well he was digging and left and never came back.
About 10 years ago I am working in my shop in SE New Mexico and a F250 Diesel with about a 6 inch lift comes up the driveway with a South Carolina Gamecocks tag on the front bumper. 2 young guys about 25-30 years old are in the truck and the driver has on a USC hat and T Shirt. They tell me they are doing a paving job around the corner and have some asphalt left over and could let me have it for a bargain and they had the equipment to spread it and what not. I tell them that'd be great...and then ask, casually, "Y'all from Murphy Village?" I never knew a F250 could reverse that fast or sling gravel that far...they did not bother to answer...the simply got the hell out of Dodge right quick. Sure as hell a few days after this happened there were several reports of the old Hot Patch Paving scam start surfacing in the area and last for a few months. Had those 2 not been as young as they were they'd not have freaked out that way when I asked them if they were from Murphy Village...they'd have probably said yes and still tried to scam me...and if I didn't immediately recognize what they were and what was going on they'd might have succeeded....they do so often enough to run around the country doing it and they live in some seriously nice mansions in Murphy Village so they are able to beat someone out of some money from time to time....

I had one come by too. These are 3rd party marketing vendors who are contracted out by companies. They try to get you to impulse buy. Keep moving until you find someone interested but close the sale at that moment. They do this for both residential and business sales. These marketing companies are basically pyramid schemes that pay these kids based on what they sell, no salary. These kids basically hustle and either build teams to work under them or utilize it as sales experience for a resume, especially if they can’t get a sales job due to not having experience.
A buddy of mine did this after college, for sales experience, and it eventually led to him getting a pharmaceutical sales job.

That is actually pretty cool, and MANY fewer kids these days are willing to do stuff like that. I admire that hustle. There is no doubt those kids get many more "no's" than "yes's", and some people are probably rude to them, yet they stick with it until they get a taker. Lots of life lessons to be learned
