Bottom line is that they have him in the right position now and if game one is any indication, he's going to be brutal on offenses this season! So fun to see him close on people.

Because they didn’t have him in the right position. He isn’t a linebacker.

Him and weeks side by side is fun to watch!

It was better without him because they weren’t playing him in the right position. They were asking him to play the position that the Weeks brothers are now playing and he was getting run over and lost in the shuffle.
Him getting hurt allowed Whit Weeks to step in and play that role better than Perkins does, or at least was. And that has allowed them to use Perkins more of how he was used freshman year, as a spy, blitzer, Swiss Army knife.

He was a liability playing inside backer for sure. Anyone says otherwise never played ball. He needs to be outside away from those big bodies and see ball get ball. My buddies and I have said this since his freshman year when he was great. Just had him playing out of position supposedly his handlers viewed him as a first round pick ilb they were so wrong.

I mean, we were better last year without Perkins. The stats dont lie.
Go watch when we changed out Perkins for Whit Weeks against Nicholls. Back to back stops as soon as he came in.
Perkins isnt a LB. He's an in the box safety who can blitz but also cover. Which is EXACTLY what he's been used as. Yall know why that last play when Perkins was all up in his face happened? Because they dropped him back into coverage a few times and they lost him in space and didnt account.
And thats how most of us who have been critical of Perkins have begged for him to be utilized. But people around here still think hes a DE.

It was the way he was being utilized, it didn’t work.

It was said and the reason it was said is because they had him playing the wrong position.
They finally moved him to star and then he got hurt.

Well to be fair, it was better without him playing ILB.
That’s not a knock on Perkins, just that he’s too small to play inside.
Now that he’s healthy and playing in a more natural position, the defense is certainly better with him.

He’s 3lbs lighter than Weeks and exactly the same size as Debo Jones. It’s not a size issue he’s just not an ILB
