Ohio State climbed to No. 1 in The Associated Press Top 25 college football poll on Tuesday, LSU and Miami moved into the top five, and Florida State jumped back into the rankings at the expense of Alabama, which plummeted to its lowest spot in 17 seasons.

The defending national champion Buckeyes received 55 of 66 first-place votes to move up two spots after their win over preseason No. 1 Texas. Ohio State is at the top of a regular-season Top 25 for the first time since November 2015.

Texas dropped to No. 7 as the media voters shuffled the rankings following a topsy-turvy Labor Day weekend. It was only the second time, and first since 1972, that two top-five teams lost in Week 1 and the first time four top-10 teams lost. Only three teams in the Top 25 are in the same spot they were in the preseason poll.

Penn State got seven first-place votes and remained No. 2. LSU, which received three first first-place votes, was followed by Georgia and Miami to round out the top five.

When’s the last time Bama was unranked during the season? 2007?

Probably, I would have LSU/OSU/Miami 1/2/3 in some order with Miami being #3. If you want LSU #1 bc they won on the road over a top team put them there, if you think Texas is way better than Clemson, put OSU there

Struggling to see how Clemson is above ND. Both teams took a L to a top 5 team. One looked overwhelmed at home and the other was more competitive on the road.

I mean I think ND should be above UT too. Take away the preseason hype machine and you can't tell me anyone is picking Arch over Carr currently after week 1.

LSU should be #2. Annoying that voters slotted in Pedo State #2 preseason and won't move them down because they beat some Mountain West school.

Probably due to last weeks rankings, which is why preseason is dumb. Clemson was #4 & ND was #6, so naturally voters still have 0-1 Clemson ahead of 0-1 ND

The first part of that may be noteworthy, but other than the Bama loss the 2nd part of the quote was expected when you have 1 vs 3, 4 vs 9 & 6 vs 10.

Also, who is the 1 voter that keeps giving Oregon a 1st?

I feel like we'll eventually learn our lesson with Penn State, but it's fine.

Like how the AP at least gave Texas the "traditional" 6-spot drop after a loss regardless of opponent or hype.

Penn State got 7 first place votes.

You will get your answer in 3 weeks (Oregon)...if you're wrong, week 8 will be the biggest game of the year.

I'm taking Texas' defense 10 times out of 10 over NDs
