HOUSTON — Charges have been filed in connection with the deadly shooting of an 11-year-old boy who was playing ding-dong ditch at a family birthday party, according to court records.
The suspect in the case has been charged with murder, according to court records. However, their name and court documents detailing the charges have not been released at this time.
What happened
The shooting unfolded around 11 p.m. Saturday, August 30, near Mimbrough and Fidelity streets, just east of the East Loop, according to the Houston Police Department.
The boy and a group of kids had been ringing doorbells when they knocked on one home. Witnesses told police that someone came outside and opened fire as the children ran away.
“A witness says someone ran out of that house and was shooting at the kids running down the street, and unfortunately, sadly enough, one of the boys, who was 11 years old, was shot in the back,” HPD Homicide Detective Sgt. Michael Cass said.
The child was rushed to the hospital with multiple gunshot wounds and later died Sunday afternoon. His name has not been released.
Suspect detained, weapons seized
Police said a man was detained at the home where the shooting happened and questioned by homicide detectives on Sunday.
While executing a search warrant at the house, investigators seized several rifles and handguns as evidence.

Well, you also can't chase someone down the street and shoot them in the back for ringing your doorbell and running away.
Or even kicking your door and running away.
The running away part is the important part. It's what makes it impossible for you to claim that you feared for your safety.

Dems will find a way to politicize it. Never let a crisis go to waste is their mantra.

Assuming the details are accurate, that was a very irresponsible thing to do, to fire at people running away like that.

That's true.
All the more reason that an 11 year old didn't need to be roaming around at 11 o'clock at night unsupervised, all the more reason he didn't need the smart phone that he almost certainly had that he was almost certainly filming his hijinks with to post on Tik Tok, etc.
But he ain't going to prison (and wouldn't be even if he had survived). His parents ain't going to prison. The idiot you mentioned is going to prison because his actions and decisions were the ones that rose to the level of criminal malfeasance.

Has nothing to do with race... a Black man was charged with killing a HS senior football player who did this prank at 3am

IDK why you are arguing with me. I think all parties involved were in the wrong, and if the details are accurate, then he deserves the punishment.

And yet nobody was charged with a crime for saying the word back then.

People are using as an excuse to demand gun control and to decry "U.S. gun culture."

When I was senior in HS, I wanted to chase pussy, drag race, and party.
Ringing doorbells and running is a child's prank.
