The successor of Saban was always going to get a raw deal unless they were the next Saban.
After Bryant they weren't a dumpster fire. They were a good to above average team that occasionally were title contenders for about 30 years. Still went through many coaches searching for one until they got to Saban. They will probably be that for a while again. But they arent going to be an unstoppable force, evil empire type of team anymore. They weren't even that during Saban's last years anyway. The coach after Saban was always going to be a sacrificial lamb unless he could keep that up, which was always a long shot at best.
