at any level of football. There are probably 50 players on the roster that will get a shot in the NFL.

He has an experienced QB that’s a 1st Round talent. He has an NFL receiving corps. He has a very expensive staff.

If he cannot compete for a national championship this year, under the new college football format of playoffs, NIL and the portal, he never will.

This is the last test for Kelly. We will 100% know what we have after this year.

I personally think that LSU makes the playoff this year. I think LSU beats Clemson but loses 2 in regular season.

I doubt they win it all, but I expect to be in the playoff and win a game in the playoffs.

Anything short of that is failure, IMHO.

If they don't make the playoffs, no matter the contract, Kelly will be looking for a new job!

I 100 believe that this is his best chance at LSU and if he fails this year, he will never get there. We have a loaded schedule, playing 7 preseason top 25 teams, but we have by far the best talent, and it can't be undersold that we have a TOP QB, who has experience. Texas, Alabama, Georgia, are all starting unproven QBs...and those three are the ones mentioned with us the most as making the playoffs. I personally think we beat Clemson, possibly soundly, and we will be significantly improved on D, and an experienced QB with an NFL arm, throwing to NFL recs and at least 1 NFL RB. The OL will be better than some think. Center is a huge part of the OL, and we have a good one there, compared to where we were last year (which I believe caused a lot of our run issues).

It is now or never imo, for BK

I'll preface by saying that the following comments would have 18 year old me saying I'm a fake fan. I'm well past the point where I believe that to be a true fan you think that your team will win every game. I think it's much more enjoyable to watch the sport with realistic expectations. In 2019 I went the entire season thinking we were going to win it all. That was fun.

I don't think we win it all with BK. I don't think he has it. I truly hope I am wrong. I'd pay money to be wrong honestly.

I actually think we are going to beat Clemson. I've taken us in all my Pick Ems. I think what is going to happen is what has continually happened and will continually happen to Kelly. The big 4 on our schedule (as I see it) are Bama, Clemson, Ole Miss, and South Carolina. I think we go, at worst 3-1. 4-0 wouldn't surprise me.

But then there's the mid tier. A&M, Arkansas, Florida, Oklahoma. I think we go 2-2 against them.

End of season 10-2/9-3, no SECCG, probably around 4th-5th on the outside looking in. Because Kelly cannot win games he is supposed to with consistency.

Hard to argue with that…

Outside of Ole Miss last year and Bama his first year, we just don’t win meaningful games with him and that was his reputation at ND as well.

Crazy that I believe this to be true AND we aren't even favored in our first game. I can't wait to get to this weekend.

It isn't a 1 for 1 comparison.

It's not about O and Miles. It's about that Kelly has not proven that he can win the games he should. He's proven that he can win as an underdog in big games, which is great, but you also need to win the games you're supposed to win.

Don’t ask for facts. We deal in ‘feels’ and repeating each other around here.

Coach O and Miles never failed to motivate and light a fire under their teams. For better or worse. I still need to see that from Kelly. We need that nastiness from our defense back, the team just seems soft under Kelly. I think that starts to change this year.

I have doubts about BK and think that his contract was AD malpractice.
But he is a good (maybe not elite) coach with a very talented team.
We appear to be a bona fide top ten team.
But the acid tests that we must win at Clemson and/ or go to the playoffs for Kelly to keep his job seems a bit much.
Clemson is a top five team we are playing at their home stadium in the season opener. Losing would not be fatal nor mean we aren't really good.
If we lose our starting QB to injury or have OL injuries even for 2-3 games, we don't make the playoffs.
Its great to have talent, but breaks and scheduling have a lot to do with success.

I don't think our players actually like BK. Don't ask me for proof, because it's more of a vibe that I get from watching the sideline and how players react to him. I think that they liked and respected Myles and coach O more, and would run through a wall for them. Just my opinion...

Completely agree with that sentiment. I genuinely think most don’t like or respect him.

This is an exhibition of terrible reasoning skills. All sports have intangibles that influence the outcome of a game. So many things that can influence the outcome of a game that are more like a dice roll. Not every outcome is 100% due to coaching or even player performance.

How many times have the most loaded college teams not won a natty, only to have it happen under the same coach during a subsequent year?

If you have a good coach that even almost gets there - that’s hard to find. You have to hang in there with these rare finds. It took Kirby Smart until his 6th year, and that guy was pumping out NFL talent. Then after 2 in a row, he’s gone 0-2.

You have to go with the coach that gives you the best odds. Yet despite that compelling phrase, every coach that has won a football national championship, never did it before until they made it to LSU. That’s what intangibles look like.

On paper and in reality. Especially on defense, it's really not close there. Now can you get this collection of talent to play to their potential together when so many have not? That's the challenge.

We returned a lot of our starters and grabbed stars from the portal. Our roster retention was excellent.

Sure Money helps but its ludicrous to think BK is hated

I agree with everything you said, but I still think he’ll get one more shot (after this season) if he doesn’t make the playoff. Like if he’s 9-3 and he’s right there I bet we’ll bring him back. If he misses playoff this year and next year, he’s gone.

Not my preference, just what I think this administration will do.

Just curious, how did you surmise this?

Did you comb through every single roster he’s had, accumulate the rankings, average them out, factor in transfers in/out, etc…?

Orrrr are you just talking out of your arse?

Come on, show the class your work. How did you arrive at this mountain of a conclusion?

I agree. A metric for this I've noticed, in player interviews, CBK is rarely mentioned as a determinant for why a player chose/chooses LSU or positive comments on him as a coach or as an individual.
