Anyone Loading Subsonic .308?

If so, what is your load data? Trailboss was THE powder but it is gone and the last I saw sold on gunbroker for $250/pound. Anyone tried something else? I have the hornady load data, but I am afraid of hangfires and inconsistent velocities. I tried loading .300 win mag down once to .308 velocities and even then I dealt with hangfires and crap standard deviations on velocities. Has anyone experimented with filler? If so, what did you use?

What are you going to do w/ the subsonic loads?
What's your goal velocity?

I have never reloaded .308 for subs. What gr bullet are you shooting?. Might want to try tightgroup. Why not just go 300 BO route? Reloading for 300 BO has more powder options. I shoot 194 gr Leigh high defense extreme consistently 975-1000 FPS using 10.9gr Accurate 1680.

I’ve looked into it but never worked up anything.
I saw that Red Dot was a powder that could be used.
Looks like Trail Boss and vihtavouri n32c are the same but both are either discontinued or just hasn’t been produced in a while.
Just found this:
Hodgdon subs

Man, the glory days (2018) when it could be found in 9oz jugs for like $30

Shoot suppressed. 1050 fps. I have three threaded .308 rifles but only one 300 blk. I would rather be able to figure out a consistent .308 sub load than buy another .300 blackout or two.

190 subx and 208 bthp. I have good loads for 300 blk for those.
I have load data for them for .308, but using anything but trailboss in .308 is going to leave so much empty case capacity.

Will you be hunting (deer? hogs?) w/ the suppressed loads or killing paper? Before suppressors were so common,I once worked up a subsonic load w/ one of my hunting buddies for his 308 rifle. It used a 130? gr lead bullet at about 900-1000 fps using IMR 700X. Back then there were concerns that if shooting a jacketed bullet at reduced velocities the jacket might get caught in the bore. I don't know whether there was any truth to that or not. I haven't read of that concern in I don't know when. He used to carry it on deer hunts to shoot squirrels or finish off a deer. IIRC he once killed 5-6 squirrels on a deer hunt. I'll see if I can find the load data.

Thanks. This will be for pigs. I have all the hodgdon and hornady load data. My concern is putting 13 grains of powder in a case with 56 grains of capacity. I am afraid that is going to lead to some inconsistent velocities. I am gonna try it and see how it shoots.

I could not get a consistent output. The issues is the powder is going to be sloshing around in the case causing inconsistent burn. way too much case, not enough powder. I can cycle in my 7.62 HK but couldn't get decent accuracy. I gave up and am building a 338 arc and keeping my 300 blackouts for subsonic use.

Subsonic .308 = .300 Blackout
Why not just get a .300 BO?

I have a 300 blk rifle. I have good subsonic loads worked up for it.
I also have three threaded .308 bolt guns. I would love to be able to shoot them subsonic too. In addition to the .300 blk.
When we pig hunt I often end up letting someone else borrow a gun because they don’t have what they need. I would much rather work up a load for guns I already have then buy more guns.
My fear is exactly what the other poster mentioned, inconsistent velocities and crap accuracy because there is so little powder in the case. I was hoping someone here had played around with it more and had a good solution. I am going to play around with some dacron poly fill. I know some reloaders use it in modern cowboy loads in this exact same situation, powder charge is way less than case capacity

I shot .308 suppressed last season for the first time and it was a game changer. Loved it
I don't see a reason to venture into sub-sonic for deer hunting but I am curious about it for hogs. Discreet Ballistics projectiles are super intriguing

I have a friend who keeps a suppressed .308 in one of his shooting houses all season long. He still carries a deer rifle, but if pigs come out he can shoot them with the suppressed .308 without fouling up his deer hunt. He says it works great. The problem is he doesn’t load, he shoots an obscure factory load.

I don't hate that but

without fouling up his deer hunt.

Some do, some don’t. I have watched deer ignore them. I have also seen a field clear out from a nearby shot.

Exactly why I don’t see the purpose for loading .308 Win to subsonic.

.300 blackout bolt gun.

I explained it in an earlier post in this thread. Do you not read the posts before commenting?
So, do you have any information on subsonic .308 loads? Have you experimented with putting filler in reduced velocity loads?
