With our first approaching cool front. Is it way too early to start thinking about laying my specticle Flo?

I’m fighting some front yard dove weed likely because I didn’t do a proper summer preemergent.

A little early is better than a tad late when it comes to pre-emergent.

I just put my first split app of Spec Flo down yesterday. I'll do the second app at the end of November / first of December.

Send it!

Agree.

But given I'm doing a split application, and me failing at trying to time the weather last year and having POA breakthrough, I decided to give it a shot and put it down early this year. Spec Flo has a pretty long residual.

I suspected that, but I find it's always easy to miss the mark of getting it down before it's cooled off or heated up enough to germinate what I'm trying to prevent. (hence why I asked)

Soil temp of 70 F - temp at which annual bluegrass (Poa annua) seeds germinate.

Craw is right and he would probably tell you don't wait until it is 70. If you do that you are too late.

The plan I have does fall & spring pre emergent plus fertilize & weed spot spray 3 times during the summer. It's $89 for each treatment. Yard size 1/3-1/2 acre.

I see these guys in the neighborhood and have wondered what the treatment costs, but never get around to asking. I spend 100 bucks at least on chemicals every time I do it, and with mixed results. I might start outsourcing this.

My neighbor uses true green. The rest of the culdesac is DIY. His never has a single weed. Ours does.

A big tub of Prodiamine is $82 that will last years. Celsius is a bit more, but unless you're overrun you can also just use generic 2, 4-D. Easily 3-4x as cheap as paying someone.

Just thought I'd post an update since I've been keeping an eye on the soil temps. Running a few degrees below average it appears. Dipped to 79 today.
