Ok masta. But you better not bitch when LSU doesn’t make a playoff over an Illinois team who didn’t beat a team over .500

Yeah basically the answer is money(of course) but it could definitely backfire but I guess we'll see

Money talks. That’s why the SEC did this. We can’t let ourselves fall behind the Big 10 financially.

Also, this is a positive for the fans because we have additional competitive, meaningful football games to watch.

OP is apparently one of the idiot LSU fans who got their feelings hurt when Alabama was correctly left out of the playoff last season.

In the final playoff rankings there were 7 SEC teams who were ranked ahead of at least one team who had a better record than they did. Therefore we can assume strength of schedule was a factor.

Easy.

Yea just wait until LSU is 9-3 with having to play teams like UGA, Texas, Bama, Auburn, Tennessee and Florida all in one year and get left out of the playoffs because of a team like Indiana had a little bit better record with their shitty arse schedule and see if you still agree with all this.

I’m sorry, you sound like one of the idiot LSU fans previously mentioned who is arse hurt over Alabama being correctly left out of the playoff last season.

If all of those teams match their historical significance in the same year in which a team goes 9-3 against them, then the team who went 9-3 against them will make the playoffs. You’re assuming that losing to some of the sorry arse Auburn and Florida teams we’ve seen recently carries the same weight as losing to some of their better teams of 10-15-20 years ago.

Just like beating LSU in 2020-2024 didn’t carry the same weight as it did prior to that.

College Football Playoff selection committee changes how it views strength of schedule

quote:

The College Football Playoff selection committee will put greater emphasis on strength of schedule in determining the field for the upcoming season.

quote:

For the 2025 season, the schedule strength metric has been adjusted to apply greater weight to games against strong opponents. Also being introduced is the record strength metric, which goes "beyond a team’s schedule strength to assess how a team performed against that schedule."

quote:

In the new metric, teams will be rewarded for defeating high-quality opponents and they won't be penalized heavily for losing such games. Conversely, teams will have minimal rewards for defeating low-quality teams but will be soundly penalized for losing such games.

This was announced right before the SEC schedule announcement. This was the last thing the SEC was waiting on to go to the 9 game schedule.

They said they’ll change the criteria to emphasize SOS, but actions speak louder than words. It just takes another Indiana/SMU situation for people to potentially falter under the “deserve” pressure.

I fell to it last year because frick Ole Piss and Bama. I would be singing a different tune if it was LSU though.

I’m cautiously optimistic that Sankey has gotten assurances from the commitee.
