This guy has created a firestorm in town with his tirade against his female employees.

I find the public apologies people give these days so canned... i don't have an opinion on this incident specifically but it's so odd how they all follow the exact same formula

I’m not sure what the sex of the employee has to do with it. Maybe you can explain. Dude definitely gives off a Gavin Newsom bulls@it vibe.

Yes, he was recorded by a female employee as he cursed at her for leaving work for an hour. I don’t know the full details, but the recordings were pretty damning. I don’t have Facebook, but the recordings can be found there. Past employees say this is a pattern of harassment. Recall efforts have begun.

He's an a-hole who was caught on video being an a-hole, now trying to convince people he's not an a-hole.
Hopefully, he loses his political career, and his business.

I don’t care what he said, but he needs to resign if he’s been on the Police Jury for 20 years.

If you are talking to one person with a smart phone, you are talking to the whole world.

A former employee of Catahoula’s spoke with KNOE to share her experience working for Smiley.

Shelby Metesh, who worked at Catahoula’s for around two months, left her job willingly this year and says a big reason she decided to quit is because of the treatment she received from Shane Smiley.

quote:

Metesh wants to remind the community to stay aware of public figures in power and their actions to others.

She says, “I just think everyone should be aware of, you know, what has come out and what has come to light and realized that this is a person that has a lot of power and, you know, Ouachita parish and, you know, they should be aware that like, this is a person you’re voting for.”

I just listened. Yes. Pretty damning. There is absolutely no reason for a boss to speak to an employee like that. If he wants to fire them, then do it professionally. Screw him.

fricking "wah".

If it was an emergency and/or she had permission from whoever was in charge at the time, he can frick off.

If it wasn't an emergency and she didn't have permission, then she gets whatever tongue-lashing she feels like staying around for.

She is not forced to stay there, nor are any of the other workers.

I think he has a right to run the restaurant any way he wants to…hopefully he gets a good arse whipping one day for his trouble. However, I think his police jury position has nothing to do with that.

I was wondering when/if this would show up here. I know Shane. Not well, but we're acquaintances. The last time I spoke with him was a couple of years ago when I happened to run into him at an LSU football game.

The language was way out of line. That said, managing a bunch of Gen Z employees must be like trying to herd cats. It has to be incredibly frustrating. And in the restaurant business no less, which is notoriously difficult to make a go of. He already has a good job apart from the restaurant. Between that and serving on the OPPJ, I'm sure he's stretched pretty thin. That probably has something to do with his reaction. I don't know why he wanted the extra hassle of running a restaurant. I guess it was his dream.

Shane's wife died several years ago and he's raised his daughter on his own. She's in her first year at LSU medical school, so he must be doing something right, this blowup notwithstanding.

The social media lynch mob on this is something to see. Yeah, he screwed up and I'm sure there will be fallout. Actions have consequences. At the same time, it's not exactly like he committed a felony. But literally thousands of people online who never heard of him before yesterday have an opinion and most of them are ready to burn him at the stake. This world.

Then maybe he’s the one that should be looking for another job, just like he screamed at his employee to do.

It’s nuts. OMG I can’t believe he used foul language at an employee! My god who hasn’t been cursed out at work. And from the sounds of it they needed a come to Jesus about showing up and responsibility.

This right here. I don’t condone the language but we’ve all been on the wrong end of an arse chewing when we were younger. I don’t have to say how soft the world has become but this is a prime example. Do your job and you avoid confrontations like this. This dude just had enough of his employees not doing their job. I don’t blame him chewing them out just have to use better words.

There are strings of text logs out there, aside from this incident, that show he’s a true douche. Any man who would speak to a young woman that way shouldn’t be in any type of leadership position. It wasn’t just a one-time thing either. Before we just dismiss this as a man frustrated at his employees, ask yourself what you would do if a grown man spoke to your wife or daughter that way. I’d be pretty livid and would be pushing to have him removed from public service and boycotting the restaurant.
