Happy Friday Morning. May your day kick arse and/or be chill and fun.

Is it insomnia or did I just get enough sleep? I do not know, but I feel okay. Beats getting jolted out of a deep sleep by the alarm.

Good morning baws and bawettes. Friday has finally arrived and with that, the college football season is only one day away!

On this day in history:

1485
Wars of the Roses ended in England. Henry Tudor (the future Henry VII) defeated the Yorkist king Richard III in the Battle of Bosworth Field on this day in 1485, effectively ending the Wars of the Roses and establishing the Tudor dynasty on the English throne.

1642
The English Civil Wars, fought between the Royalists and the Parliamentarians, began when King Charles I formally raised the royal standard at Nottingham.

1775
King of Great Britain and Ireland, George III, proclaims the American colonies to be in open rebellion and orders his officials to suppress them.

1776
Redcoats land at Long Island. The British arrive at Long Island, between Gravesend and New Utrecht, with “near twenty four thousand men ready to land in a moment,” according to one observer.

1849
Austria attacks Venice with balloon bombs, considered the first remote aerial attack. Using a fleet of some 200 pilotless balloons, Austria launches what is considered history’s first remote aerial attack on August 22, 1849. The blitz over Venice is part of a counteroffensive against the city, which had overthrown Austrian rule a year before and briefly gained independence as the Republic of San Marco.

1851
The first America's Cup was won by the American yacht America in a race around the Isle of Wight.

1864
First Geneva Convention adopted in Geneva "for the Amelioration of the Condition of the Wounded in Armies in the Field" is signed by 12 nations.

1865
William Sheppard received the first U.S. patent for liquid soap.

1962
The N.S. Savannah, world’s first atomic-powered merchant ship, arrives in Savannah, Georgia, first stop on its maiden voyage to promote peaceful uses of nuclear power. Some foreign ports refuse it, fearing catastrophe.

1973
U.S. President Richard M. Nixon named Henry A. Kissinger secretary of state.

1978
Rebel Sandinistas occupied the National Palace in Managua, Nicaragua, holding more than 1,000 hostages for two days, in opposition to the government of Anastasio Somoza Debayle.

1989
In a game against the Oakland Athletics, Nolan Ryan of the Texas Rangers struck out Rickey Henderson to become the first MLB pitcher to register 5,000 strikeouts; he ended his career with a record-setting 5,714.

1994
DNA testing links O.J. Simpson to murders of Nicole Simpson and Ron Goldman. Court papers filed in Los Angeles Superior Court disclose DNA test results showing that O.J. Simpson’s blood genetically matches blood in the trail leading from the murder scene of his ex-wife, Nicole Brown Simpson, and her friend Ron Goldman. The pair had been found murdered two months earlier outside of Brown Simpson’s luxury town house in Brentwood, California, a Los Angeles suburb.

2004
The Scream (1893), a painting by Edvard Munch, was stolen from the Munch Museum in Oslo, Norway; it was recovered two years later.

Hope everyone has a great day and a wonderful weekend!

In an Uber heading to IAH. It’s a work trip and I don’t get up this early except to hunt or fish.

Can’t forget the lip pillows
