On this day 33 years ago: The Ruby Ridge standoff began

The Ruby Ridge standoff (August 21–31, 1992) was an 11-day confrontation between Randy Weaver’s family and federal agents in rural northern Idaho.
Background: Randy Weaver, a former Green Beret and survivalist, had moved his family to Ruby Ridge to live off the grid. He became involved with white separatist circles. After selling two sawed-off shotguns to an informant, he was charged with firearms violations. He failed to appear in court due to confusion over the date, and a warrant was issued for his arrest.
Initial Incident: U.S. Marshals went to survey the Weaver property on August 21. A shootout broke out between marshals and the Weaver family/dog. Deputy U.S. Marshal William Degan, Weaver’s 14-year-old son Sammy, and the family dog were killed.
Escalation: The FBI surrounded the cabin. The next day, Weaver was shot and wounded by a sniper. His wife, Vicki Weaver, was killed by the same sniper while holding their baby.
Standoff: The family, along with family friend Kevin Harris (also wounded), holed up inside the cabin for days, refusing to surrender.
Resolution: Civilian negotiators (including Bo Gritz, a former Green Beret and militia figure) eventually persuaded Weaver to surrender on August 31.
Aftermath:
Randy Weaver was acquitted of all major charges except failing to appear in court.
The federal government faced heavy criticism for excessive force and rules of engagement.
Weaver’s family later won a $3.1 million settlement in a wrongful death suit.
The incident, along with Waco (1993), fueled anti-government sentiment and became a rallying point for militia and patriot movements in the U.S.
In short: Ruby Ridge was a botched federal operation that resulted in the deaths of a marshal, a child, and a mother, and it had a lasting influence on anti-government extremism in America.

Why does the FBI act like this?

Gerry Spence!
"Boys with toys" is what he called the Govt./FBI during trial.
Ruby Ridge is Genesis in people when it comes to having scales removed from your eyes and seeing the truth of this world.

I had my eyes closed when Waco happened. I had a buddy telling me the government murdered a bunch of people for no reason. I thought they got what they deserved. I know better now.

The expectation when meeting people in these government agencies is to act in good faith.
All that snooping around by the Federal Marshalls was unnecessary. Just go talk to the dude or arrest him when he is away from his house. Sometimes I think LE makes law enforcement intentionally more difficult.

Dumb law.
You can buy a short barreled shotgun from a retailer but you can't make your own.
Stupid.

28 children died at Waco. I saw footage filmed by long cameras by a local TV station.
It showed armored vehicles with nozzles punching holes in the compound with flames coming out the nozzles.
The government argument for their action was to protect the children.
I guess you had to burn the children to protect the children.
This incident opened my eyes to the horrors of government atrocities.

They could've done the exact same thing with David Karesh and Waco would've never happened.

That shite still pisses me off to this day. A family, that lives very similar to how me and my family live, just wanted to be left the frick alone and it all started with some arbitrary ridiculous law that dictates how long a shotgun barrel needs to be. Every one of those federal agents should have been tried and convicted of accessory to murder and the sniper himself convicted of murder. Is it protocol to surround a house with snipers and federal agents every time someone has a failure to appear??

i was a kid and watched it on tv and yea this is exactly how i felt
i hate McVay, but i understand why he felt he had to go to war with the government. but you dont blow up a building full of innocent people who had nothing to do with those choices
but make no mistake about it, under clinton...the atf adn fbi was at war with the american public.

Be careful. PT Board members love them some masked law enforcement officers acting anonymously.
