I am an absolute lover of both franchises. I am very adverse to horror but these two pull and keep me in even when they have stinkers. Debate and dialogue in the Alien: Earth made me argue where I rank them.

Predator:

Predator
Predators (controversial take but I really like this one)
Prey
Predator: Killer of Killers
Predator 2
AvP
The Predator
AvP Requim

Alien:

Aliens
Alien
Alien:Romulus
Covenant
Alien: Earth (as of now)
AvP
Alien 3
Prometheus
Resurrection
AvP Requiem

I put Predator as the greatest action movie ever made. Or at least in a tie with Terminator 2.

And I would put Alien and Aliens somewhere pretty high on that list too.

The rest of the movies you listed are on a different tier.

Hot take: Prometheus was pretty good.
Hot take 2: Prey was incredibly overrated.
Hot take 3: Predators (if that’s the one with Adrian Brody) was really good.

It was and it was. I think people dump on it a bit because of Adrian Brody not being an action star but he was perfectly ruthless for what this called for. And it answered a lot of questions about the Predator world.

Great great cast.

Would agree. Predator and T2 were the pinnacle of the 80s into early 90s action movies.

Personally I really wish Predator had been a sequel to Commando but perhaps Arnold wouldn’t have gone back on duty as a single dad.

I pretty much agree with all of these. The Brody one was alright, not super memorable.

I don't know if it's the greatest, but it's definitely up there. And it is just about a perfect movie...everything about it (cast, acting, action, suspense, villain. hero, music, pacing, SFX, etc.) is perfect.

I'll rank them overall in tiers:

Top tier
Alien
Predator
Alien 3 (zip it)
Aliens
Prey
AVP (I liked this one way more than I should have)
Predator: Killer of Killers (this was badass)

Mid tier
Predator 2
Predators
Prometheus

Bottom tier
AVP: Requium
Alien Resurrection
The Predator
Alien: Covenant
Alien: Romulus

Jury still out: Alien: Earth

Now that is a spicy take. But I’d expect that from somebody that has 3 in top tier.

Joshing you aside, AvP is actually pretty fun. It’s more campy mid00s bad CGI but it was a cool concept to play with.

mostly agree with Cocomo here, and i've been a longtime supporter of his Alien 3 take. i love Alien 3, especially the director's cut. i think it is the perfect conclusion to a dark, dreary, ultimately hopeless tale.

i'll bump Resurrection up to mid-tier, but that's mainly a nostalgia thing for me.

AVP gets bumped down to mid-tier for me.

havent seen all the Predator content, but the ones i have seen, i agree with his placement

To be fair, Romulus was on the brink of mid tier for me. I could’ve gone either way with it. But I watched it a few months ago and don’t really remember much about it, which isn’t a good sign to its quality. Also, I remember thinking it was more of a “decent movie with a few cool scenes” than an actual, really good movie.

I wouldn’t argue with someone putting it in mid tier. But there wasn’t really much special about it, so I also won’t argue with it being low tier.

I just watched the first two recently and maybe I need to watch 3 again to see if I’m just misremembering.

It’s honestly become a bit of a running joke with you and SFP, that I can’t remember my opinion is legit

I’m a huge Fincher guy and know he walked into shite show and maybe could appreciate in my mid-40s.

It’s become a joke around here, but my stance on 3 is my legit opinion. I think it’s that good. Just the setting, the brutality of it, the cinematography with the bleak colors and sets, the desolation, the characters, the cat and mouse chase of them trying to corner it, etc…it’s all great IMO.

I think it got hated on at the time because of the trailer, which made people think it would be on earth. Which is valid. But the movie itself is actually very good.

And I also think Aliens is a bit overrated. Yes, I think it’s really good. But the tone was so different from the first one and it’s a straight action movie. Which is fine, but I liked the horror aspect of the first one with one xeno terrorizing everyone. So having hundreds of them took away from it as a villain a bit IMO. But like I said, I do very much like 2. I just also really love 3. And I know I’ll always be in the minority on that.

If Baloo was still around, I know he’d back me up on 3.

Every different sentence of that paragraph took me from hating you to loving back and forth.

Alien 3 was absolute hot frickin dogshit. It started with the really bad decision to kill off Newt and Hicks offscreen and just went from there.

In no particular order

Alien
Aliens
Predator

I don't recommend other movies to anyone really, although I have a soft spot for Predator 2 because I saw it before predator as a kid, and I won't turn Predators off if I catch it on TV.

While I agree that Alien is superior to Aliens because I loved the horror aspect of the first movie, to me Aliens (and Terminator 2) are what sequel movies should pursue. They need to be different enough from the first movie so they don't just suffer from comparison. Both sequels were the perfect blend of different while obviously being in the same universe.
