Bunkers with gun ports, solar generators, 10 years worth of freeze dried food and ammo, short wave radios, etc.

And what makes you a “patriot”?

And who are you prepping for? The gubmint? Russians? Aliens? Zombies?

I am genuinely interested in you people. Educate me.

I’m too afraid I’d spend my whole life accumulating shite to survive and then die of something stupid like dysentery on day 3 of the apocalypse

I’ve lived in south Louisiana for 50+ years. A survivalist lifestyle is kinda just a lifestyle.

I love this country and freedom. I'll die before I surrender.

I've watched a bunch of videos and can tie a bunch of knots. Can make a shelter and start a fire pretty well. Have some equipment to cook in and boil water. I drive past some wooded areas and look at them imagining I could handle it.
Have given some kits to my wife and daughters...
I like beans and stuff.

Any other questions?

The biggest issue most of us, 50 and older, will face is likely a major natural disaster. However, I'm concerned about cyber attacks on the electric grid. For younger folk, I think it is going to very hard over the next 50-100 years. There'll be a very small elite class, small merchant class and a very large peasant class, kind of like the dark ages.

I got into preparedness about a decade ago. Extra food storage and food use rotation (to keep the storage items fresh, not collecting dust), extra water storage, a more complete assortment of tools & supplies, a large productive garden, orchard, and berries, etc.

I’m also good with the neighboring property owners, and we talk about security issues, contingency plans, etc. just in case things get wacky.

Good point, water is more important than anything else.

Deleted.

[Wrote a post about my mother, who's 82 and now in a nursing home, and decided that I didn't want to talk about her that way, not even as an object lesson.]

You learn a lot about your family’s survival instincts when WiFi goes out or go to Chick fil A and forget it is Sunday when they are closed.

We might last 10 days with water, pork n beans and a ball peen hammer but are doomed after that.

I live so far in the sticks we have to pipe in sunlight and I have a stockpile of rice and dry beans. Does that count?

I honestly just don't want to live around other people. They always end up being a pain in the arse. I could go outside tomorrow and start digging a pond and the only person that's gonna have questions for me is my wife.
