Anyone hunt in South TX seeing any doves yet? Starting to see them in Zavala county this weekend while down at the ranch

I just got back from my place today and we had a decent amount but nothing crazy yet.

I’m sure like every year we will get a foot of rain right before season to scatter the birds.

I have booked a couple of days at the Bader Ranch at Hondo in about a month with my buds…I can’t wait!

I've been getting good reports in the panhandle area. Not as many as last year, but solid numbers.

We went to Hondo for 4-5 years. Last time at Bader’s, they had us in there 3 rows deep on the outside of the sunflower field. Several people were peppered and one got shot pretty good. We go to McAllen now, way more dove, less hunters and cheaper. But a long drive.

Hondo area is a great dove area, very popular as the last post said, lots of grain fields. Our place down in Karnes County has quite a few birds currently, it is usually pretty good for the first two weeks then it slacks off until the second season. Up around the house east of SA there are an average amount of birds I would say, the area always has a lot of birds this time of year. There a few outfitters that run hunts around the house including the one that does the hunting / concert events, this year they have Randy Rogers playing the evening following opening day.

It's 77 today in DFW, with a ENE wind

That will push some down to Texas

Sounds like that one poster had a bad experience with one outfitter or ranch in Hondo. I hope. But I’m looking for anything within an hour of Kerrville for me and my son.

All that area along 90 west of SA is good, lots of day hunt places out there. I haven't hunted out that way in several years, I still go along 90 but East of SA now. Good luck.

I’ll be in Starr County the 13-14th. White wing on Saturday and Mourning dove opens that Sunday.

Yep, looks like it's already showing in the forecast a chance of rain every day from 9/7-9/11. I'm not going to complain we need the rain here in Karnes county.

Hunted at the Bader Ranch in Hondo, TX for the past couple of days. 6 in my crew and we all got easily got limits every day. Incredible amount of doves in the field every day I hunted.

Little too crowded for my taste on Saturday, but there were few hunters on Sunday. I will do it again next year…probably book a Sunday and Monday in the future.

Smashed em last weekend just south of alice texas. Tons of mourning doves and a few white wings made for easy limits.

We have been fricking them up at my brother’s place in Palito Blanco which is Alice but heading towards Premont.

We shot a few mourning doves at our ranch but his place is all cut farm fields.
