Is there a better hunting store in Louisiana than Simmons?

I love that place. If there's a better one I want to visit it.

Bass pro shops.
They have the most knowledgeable employees, I bought a 6.5creedmore from them because the salesman told me that the bullet is still rising at 500yds.

Simmons is a damn good store. I used to get some killer deals there around Christmas time, too!

Late summer of 2013, I got invited to a gun hunt in Illinois for November. I grew up in Monroe, but live on the Northshore.

I was in the market for a 20GA slug rifle for this hunt. I’d checked every store in SLA, from the Northshore to Lafayette. I called Simmons and asked if they had one. Jeff Simmons answered the call in their gun department. He told me he is pretty sure he had 1 left and put me on hold. A couple of minutes later, he came back and told me he had a single shot H&R handi-rifle and would sell it for $100. I called my Dad and had him go buy it an hour later.

That is my favorite rifle I own to this date.

Just last week, I was in the market for a different 7-08 round and camo for my oldest son. My Dad told me he was going to Simmons the next day to see if they had any deals he needed. I told him what I was looking for. He calls me the next morning to tell me he picked up 5 boxes of the ammo and 2 sets of camo for 4Jr.

If Simmons doesn’t have it, it’s most likely not available.

To most everyone on TD, Bastrop is actually in Arkansas.

I wouldn't claim Bastrop as part of Louisiana if it weren't for the fact that that's where Simmons is.

FYI, their lunch plates are legit.

Never heard of Simmons. I will say that Lafayette Shooters and G&H in Gueydan are legit for south LA hunting and quality guns and gear.

Difference is, Simmons is where hunters shop, Lafayette Shooters is where people who want to look like hunters shop.

I haven't been in G&H in a long time. Loved going in that place.

On another note, I saw that MPW was bought by BPS, I was sad to hear that.

And all the beef there is raised, butchered, and sold by Jeff Simmons. You can buy his beef in the store to take home also.

One of if not the largest cattle man in Louisiana, he either owns or leases over 10K acres of pasture/hay property in N. La. A buddy spends all summer clipping pastures driving a JD 6130 with a 18ft cutter behind it.

I prefer Spotted Dog in Columbia for firearms over Simmons.

Tyner in Monroe is really nice also but if Simmons doesn’t have it you probably can’t get it anywhere.

TP Outdoors in Monroe is my go-to for all my bow needs. I finally made it out to Simmons and they have an amazing selection. Prices weren’t anything special, but the selection was.
