Shin Godzilla 4K theatrical re-release.

I've seen Shin a few times, but seeing it in theater felt like a director's cut. Run time is the same, so I guess it's the same movie, but up on the big screen there seems to hit a tad harder.
Subbed, thankfully, but the English lines kept alternating from top to bottom of the screen, as all the names, titles and committee, sub committee meeting text were constantly being shown. It's a bit tedious, but as the movie goes on, that's less and less an issue.
I hear a sequel is planned. I hope it's done in a more straight forward manner, w/ out the political subtext of the 1st one.

saw Shin on your recommendation several years ago as my youngest is a huge Gojira fan
we enjoyed it, but frankly it paled in comparison to Minus One
not surprising, since it was one of the most enjoyable cinematic experiences of my entire life

Yeah, Minus One is about my favorite TOHO movie, of all time.
But I didn't exactly run out and see Shin Godzilla for a good long time. I thought it's early form was just too bizarre. But when I finally saw it, I was glad to have seen the whole movie. Well made, for what they were trying to do with it, post Fukushima response and all.

I like the movie, but my fast forward button gets a workout when I watch.

All that committee and sub committee stuff can give you a bit of whiplash. Which it's supposed to be a bit dizzying for all the bureaucratic procedurals, by design. Tougher to follow it if you are trying to read while catching the onscreen action.

I didnt find it to be too annoyingly political.. wasnt it meant to have some nationalist themes? The Japanese are proud people. I can appreciate that

More of a Japanese centric - IYKYK commentary on how the gov. reacted (poorly) following the massive quake, tsunami and then Fukushima reactor disaster. That's mostly what the early part of the movie is showcasing, all the cabinet, committee, sub-committee meetings, the hierarchy of senior members ignoring what their underlings say, then having it blow up in their faces almost immediately, time and time again.
There's also some of that, though in a more general sense, in Minus One. Basically governments are ineffective and aren't looking out for the public's best interest.

Saw Minus One Minus Color on the last showing of the last day. Only person in the room. Last person to leave besides the cleaning guy. Unforgettable experience.

G-1 is the greatest monster movie since 1940ish

Which did you have in mind?
King Kong was in 33?
The Beast from 20,000 Fathoms was '53.
Original Godzilla was '54.

I think G-1 is better than the original 1954.
I used 1940ish as a demarcation because of king kong, Frankenstein and bride of Frankenstein.

Just got back. Its was alright. Definably liked Minus one better.
My son is a Evangelion fan, so he really likes it. Me, not so much, but ehhh.
But there is this, that I think is a stretch.
