Interesting 2024 running game stat

44 of our 330 rush attempts were between our 2 highest graded run blockers, Will Campbell and Garret Dellinger. 101 of them were straight up the gut on either side of our worst run blocker, DJ Chester. Head scratching.

Good find. Where did you find that?

Our starting RB was also hampered by a pretty significant injury the latter 4/5 of the season.

most of our run game is inside zone which is very common in college football
Unfortunately only durham showed the vision you need to run inside zone most of the time
he’s orettt much the only back who would cut back our bounce it outside when he needed to

It’s because they thought we would get behind our best run blockers, so we thought if they thought we thought that, that made us think that we should not do what they thought. That way we out thought them, see?

Maybe this year, we will throw them off and run it on first down sometimes instead of 2nd and 10.
We need to deploy the unstoppable one counter play we ran versus Florida a few years ago. That was hilarious.

Plus we lost Dellinger for the season during the A&M game. In came Mubenga who was not ready and we saw Chester struggle all season. Hopefully we can put 5 sec ready linemen on the field and get more creative than inside zone.

While I do not disagree with most of these observations about the personnel, you have to also remember that there was an OC who was calling these plays, and he did so over and over, despite a lack of success.
While we are assigning grades to players, we need to assign grades to coaches, too.
Sloan will not do well based on last year's performance.

The ratio is interesting, but I would also
like to see the average per carry for each lane.

Any time we had incomplete pass on 1st down: cue tight end in motion, hand off up middle. Hello 3rd and 8.

Told y'all, Sloan has no fricking clue how to call run plays.

We were trying to fool the opponent ??

With zone blocking, you do realize it’s on the back to find the best opening and hit it, right? We ran a lot of zone plays, so “calling those plays” doesn’t mean the back is always being told what gap to hit. So many of those runs were likely due to lack of vision or the back trying to take the shortest distance to the line if there wasn’t an obvious hole created. .

If the depth on a team is this bad on this level, a different problem exists.
