16 years. My wife and I had her for 16 years. First one we’ve had to put down. She was doing great a few months ago and one illness led to another to another and before you knew it, the vet let us know it was time. It’s hard to explain how bad this is, even worse than I’d ever imagined. It hurts to breathe. I can’t make sense of the fact that there’s nowhere to find her on this earth anymore. I know the pain gets better and this too shall pass but I’m absolutely shattered. I truly hope to see our beloved friends on the new earth. I can’t fathom that she’s just gone.

I feel your pain to the degree I haven’t had a pet in two years. I do the right thing and let them go when it’s time; I’m just not good at it.

I love the way we were able to let her go. She died with her head in my wife’s hands and laying in my arms. She wasn’t ever alone, all the way to the end. Feeling the spark of life leave her body has crushed me.

That is always hard.

Ive had to do it 3 times, and I find it easier to get a new puppy quick. Last one we got was a dutch shepherd. Awesome dog but very high energy.

Sorry for your loss. It sucks to lose a pet.

I'm sure she was the best girl. I hope you find some peace in that she shared her 16 years with you.

My retriever is 10 years old. I dread the day. Sorry for your loss.

It's tough. Dogs are one of the best things about a life that often seems gratuitously painful and mean. Hang in there. It does get better eventually but you never forget them. A while back my dad was talking about a puppy he lost when he was five or six years old and he teared up over it.

It never gets easy. The older they get you know the day is coming but you block it out but when the day does come man it's tough. I've been there for 3 of mine taking their final breath and cried like a baby with each one. Consider yourself lucky 16 years is a good run.

So sorry for your loss. 16 years is a good life and sounds like she got a lot of love.

Our little girls time is running out because of a brain tumor and I tear up just thinking about it. Been with us our entire marriage.

You are hurting right now, but just think of all the good times you had with her and that will help at least a little.

Sorry for your loss. This is tough. I lost my 13 year old at the beginning of the year and am still not over it.

Sorry to hear that brother. I hope “this too shall pass” passes sooner than later. This is absolutely awful.

Sorry to hear your pain my friend, it absolutely sucks. I made that trip to the vet one time and vowed to never do it again. We had a mobile vet come to the house for our last two and it was a blessing. Both dogs just laid in their bed, eating eggs and PB, blissfully unaware of what was about to happen. I can’t recommend in-house euthanasia enough. Stay strong and remember the good times

Took us 4 years to get another dog. We laid down on the floor with her as they went through the shot cocktail. It was unreal…I can’t even explain…but you know, unfortunately.
