Can’t really say we whiffed on Mahomes as KC literally traded ahead of us. Dart had one damn preseason half.

Not only did KC trade ahead of the Saints to draft him, when Mahomes realized the Saints were about to draft him he called KC to get them to jump ahead.
Dart also falls into that category unless OP thinks the Saints should have drafted him at 9. Apparently Saints were calling to jump back into the 1st to draft him, but NYG jumped ahead (or gave up more).

Hindsight is 20-20.
It's easy to say we whiffed on quarterbacks after the fact
Look at Chicago, they took Mitch Trubisky instead of Pat Mahomes.
Jets to Sam Darnold and Cardinals to Josh Rosen before Lamar Jackson
None knew how they were going to turn out.
Also how do we know that Mahomes or Jackson would have been good somewhere else?
Look at Baker Mayfield, taken in the same draft as Jackson and really didn't find his niche until he got to Tampa, several teams later.
Same thing with Sam Darnold and the jury is still out with him while he starts with Seattle this season

Based on your list, I guess Trey Lance, Mac Jones, Jordan Love, Kyle Trask, Davis Mills, Kenny Pickett, Jalen Hurts, Drew Lock, Deshaun Watson, Paxton Lynch, DeShone Kizer, Will Levis and Dillon Gabriel.

This is to support your point. Shough may be the first QB we've taken where you can say we took the wrong guy, and that's if he sucks and/or Sanders or Milroe ball out.
The vast majority of the others we didn't have a shot at without trading away picks, which people would of course bitch about.

Pat Mahomes, you can say Payton should have shut up about pre-draft, but I'm guessing Diana Russini sent him some worn, unwashed panties to sniff and she was able to get the scoop, thus driving the Chiefs to jump in front of the Saints and pick him.
