I know they were really bad for a while. TIA.

Mine might be from one of those years. I forget exactly. The fridge/freezer is solid. The ice maker breaks every 1-2 years. I can change it in about 4 minutes. Cheaper than buying a new fridge at about $80 each.

They’ve never been good. Still aren’t.

Ice maker freezes up and there’s no fix for it. Real PITA. We sold ours and bought a new one.
Had Problems with stove and dryer after a couple years…Wont but another Samsung appliance except tv again.

POS. We have the French door version. I’ve maker freezes up and sucks. And the coils freeze up as well. I won’t by anything from Samsung ever again.

Just spend an extra $200 on a Whirlpool fridge. You would have spent that same money on ice makers twice within the first year that you owned it.

In 2006 when Samsung made a big push for the french door / bottom freezer we purchased one. Wifes boss saw it and had to get one also. About 6 months later, due to a bad batch of capacitors he door on the ice dispenser would open & close every 5 seconds. Temporary fix put a towel in there so you didn't hear it.
Boss couldn't stand it called a repair man and put a new circuit board in for $800. Just about that time Youtube was gaining steam and someone posted a video of which capacitor it was. Five minutes & a $3 dollar part it was good to go.

One came with a house we bought. The water dispenser froze. It consisted of two plastic bottles joined by a small, short tube. It leaked so I fixed it. What a dumb design. Then, the ice maker quit altogether, as already pointed out.
On a side note, regarding capacitors, I was taught to select the voltage rating for a capacitor to be double that of the expected voltage. For example, in a 12V circuit, use a 25V capacitor. Especially in a circuit prone to hysteresis. What I see these days, especially from China, is a lot of 16V, halfass ratings. Good place to start when troubleshooting.

Do not buy an appliance from a cell phone manufacturer and for that matter don't buy a cell phone from Frigidaire either

We've had Samsung appliances for 10+ years with zero issues.. other than the icemaker. Yeah, the icemaker designer needs to be beaten with a stick.

When mine freezes up, I put a hair dryer on it for 3 minutes and its good to go.
Not ideal, but not the end of the world either.
