Im curious as to how LSU is 4-5 stars across the board at oline , they could have went to any school in the country, 300+lbs all are elite athletes and have been getting their asses kicked day in day out , yr in yr out for the past 5 yrs ???? Coaching? , desire ?, or just a bunch or overrated pansies? I dont get it . That is all i feel better already.

We’ve had a really good O-line the last 2 years and 5 years ago we won a natty

We have not ran the ball when it counts for yrs . And i am well aware of 2019 .

There are a few potential answers to your question:
1. Brad Davis and the recruiting services are are terrible at evaluating recruits - we don't have talented players.
2. Brad Davis is a great recruiter but not a good coach - we have talent but the coaching sucks.
3. Our offensive scheme is to blame - we have talent, fundamentals are sound, but the scheme requires things our OL can't do. Or something.
4. Everything is fine and our OL and run game will be better this year.
I suspect that if we don't have a running game this year, it's going to be a long season, and Davis is going to be on the hot seat.

The answer is they haven't. You need to pay better attention.

It’s a passing game and that puts a premium on pass protection skills and experience.
The game will evolve, as it always does.
Would not surprise me if everything old eventually becomes new again and some new-fangled take on the running game brings a new running revolution.
In the meantime, passing and variability rule the day and the run game is not primary.
I’m just looking for this o-line to keep Nussmeier upright and win enough battles in the trenches to keep the defenses ever so hesitant.
If as a unit they can ultimately grade out at B- or B, that’s a win for sure…

Multiple of the local media said oline had a better day yesterday. Also the whole oline getting their arse beat has been stupidly overblown to begin with. It was 1 week of camp.

This year is going to be different. Solid run game coordinator, deep threats to keep the D honest, and depth to push the starters.

That was six seasons ago.

5 - 2020
6 - 2019

Michigan is your prime example. They were antiquated on O . And the modern D couldn’t stop it.

That’s my exact sentiment.
In fact, I heard we are “going to need to be creative with the running game if we cannot get it going.”
And that sucks to hear on many levels.
1. It means we aren’t quite impressed
With the run game (though it is still early).
2. It also could mean Nuss and these Wr/Te can smoothly move the ball between the 20s all we want. But get to red zone and the drives may stall. It was very frustrating to have to fail on fourth downs in last two years inside the 20.

2019: LSU averaged 5.3 ypc (minus Burrow)
2022: LSU averaged 5.0 ypc (minus Jayden Daniels
2023. LSU averaged 5.1 ypc (minus Jayden Daniels)
2024: LSU averaged 4.6 ypc (minus Nussmeier)
2019 had the most prolific passing game college ever saw, and we had a 1st round pick at rb. 2022 and 23 were Denbrock calling plays and without any real dynamic rb. Daniels did help with defenses having to account for him so that’s why last year was worse than the previous 2 years. It isn’t just a “soft oline”.
Edited to add that as good as we have been passing the last couple years we haven’t committed to running the ball really.

LSU has not had an effective running game in a long time. Take out JD’s freakish ability to scramble and get long gains out and we’ve been piss poor at running the ball for the last 4 years.
If we were able to run the ball against USC and A&M last year, those were easy W’s.

This is true. If LSU is to get anywhere this year they have to be balanced or at least run when they need to. You can't put everything in Nuss again this year considering he's a pocket passer.
I'm not sure what the problem is but it's definitely worth looking at. I guess we could question Davis coaching ability. He's a good recruiter but we've struggled to run for years. JD's runs were mostly not designed so that's entirely different.
I don't know if it's scheme, coaching, or both. Whatever it might be needs to be fixed. If LSU doesn't hit playoffs this year I think it will be because of Sloan and the OL/Davis. I was not impressed with Sloan last year he has to improve. It can't be really undersold how predictable was last year under Sloan. If anyone in the stadium or watching TV could see a second down run was coming from Sloan you know the defense did too.
BK recognized it as a flaw and tried to address it this season with new coaches to help the run scheme. So it's clear he sees it as a major problem too.

Brad Davis is a bad coach. Pretty simple

2024- ranked last in the sec rushing, LAST !!!
Ranked 104th nationally
Are you kidding!!!! Out side of JD LSU oline has gotten their asses stomped it the run game. Every day they show a Nuss long td , where are the highlights of their Rbs ??? They don’t exist. This offensive line is getting owned by athletes of equal caliber, spare me the “they are young” bs . These olinemen are not this inept , these coaches are just not getting it out of them imo .

When we were running the ball tremendously with almost no passing game, we bitched about that too
Posted on 8/10/25 at 12:08 pm to ODanMan
Man…I don’t know if it’s just an internet effect to be hyperbolic, but it hasn’t been five years since we’ve been effective running the ball. We were good in ‘22 and ‘23 with Daniels at quarterback. TDP ran for 300 yards against Florida in ‘21. He wasn’t always super effective, but he wasn’t anemic either.
We sucked last year. That’s about it.

Coach O stopped recruiting the OLine and left Kelly nothing in the trenches. Kelly did an amazing just fielding an OLine his first two years but now in year four we are finally back to where an Oline group has to be be 12-15 deep

I feel like the future is here with Malzahn spread power running offense. With a few high grade recruiting classes I'd imagine it would be damn near impossible to stop. It's hard to stop with 2 and 3 stars. With a good QB it's damn near impossible.
