This is but a single man's account. Curious OTs response

TLDR for those who don't want to watch

The company owners are making a killing and the workers are in a race to the bottom.
Culture of who can be the dumbest person on a job site.
Egotistical.
Safety standards ignored.
Education is seen as something to be ridiculed.
Tradespeople have a shorter career on average.

There's so much praise for Tradespeople on here, and I'm sure some people who sing the praises of trades actually are tradespeople, but his experience is more in line with what I saw when I was between 20-23 working at a supply store and delivering to job sites. People on the sites were rude, lacked empathy, sometimes even did shitty work (and word got around), and treated their apprentices like garbage.

I appreciate that the OT is full of many different people with different opinions, so I understand how one might be different than the status quo. However, there are always (and perhaps they are a small minority) a good chunk of folks who come out and suggest that college is a waste of time.

Also, he's talking less about why he is upset he is in an apprenticeship, and more so about the apprenticeship culture. This is a belief I have held for a while, that nobody, even those who would do well to be an apprentice, would go into an apprenticeship if they had other options because they know they will have to deal with pissed off journeyman who couldn't do anything else.

What a crybaby millenial that has zero clue about overhead.
He isnt taking into account tools, van, unemployment insurance, workmans comp, payroll taxes, business taxes, the owners taxes, property taxes.

Yes the part may be cheap but it isnt cheap to field an on call team of guys to do it. There is going to be a minimum service fee.

Its more nuanced than this but he is showing his ignorance. If he needs to lay the blame anywhere it should be on the absolute shitty store of value the dollar has been. Its inflation dummy

He said revenue. He didn't say profit.

I'll admit I had the same thought when he said that, but I think his point still stands.

Also the bit about smoking crack was a little over the top.

I think overall the kid has some good points even if their exists a bit of naivete.

I’d be curious if the same frustrations existed in those with trade Union paths.

Is this YouTube account attached to a Redditor and/or subreddit?

No one will admit this but blue collar work environments are nasty and total shite...and not necessarily in terms of physical state but more in terms of garbage conversations, disgusting topics, rude, lack of professionalism. Youre around ex-cons, drug addicts, etc. And not the reflective humble ex-con or drug addict, but the ex-con who still thinks he was done wrong or the drug addict who brags about passing drug tests. You're constantly surrounded by the dregs of society that have never sat down for a moment and evaluated themselves and/or why their lives are constant dysfunction.
You can tell which conservatives have actually worked around these people based on how they talk about them.

Blue collar guys are far from "man's man", they're more like HS teenage girls stuck in a fat/thick body covered in tattoos. A real mass of chaos.

Theres tons of reasons people dont do blue collar work anymore.

That’s the good thing about the free market. You’re welcome to start your own competing business.

Sometimes it works. Most of the time it does not.

Until that time, go pound sand and suck it up.

What an absolute pathetic excuse for a young man. Talk about should go learn to code! He’s hesitant, insecure, and timid. No wonder he’s aghast at what he saw. He could no more fit into that culture than I could into ghetto culture. So why is he trying? Dude needs to go to nursing school or get his appraisers license or something similar. He is no
Blue color hand nor will he ever be. And that’s not a compliment. Talk about never had a decent father figure.

For every tradesman that is very successful being a tradesman, there are probably 10 average blue collar guys. Most people that do well in the trades end up being a business owner, just think about how many plumbing, electrical, hvac, etc businesses any town has and someone in the owner.

Your goal is not to be a plumber for life but to be a plumbing company manager or plumbing company owner.

Apprenticeship should not just be for the trades fields. For the vast majority of careers, college has become a huge waste of time and money. A lot of what kids learn there is useless in the real world of their chosen field and they go into their careers with little idea how to actually do their jobs.

Really, unless going into a specialized field such as engineering, healthcare, law and a few others, an apprenticeship would serve young people far better. This is especially true in fields like marketing and business. Even young people wanting to go into fields like accounting and computer sciences would come out ahead by doing an apprenticeship instead of college.
