Why do you need to know English to drive a truck? The signs are universal.

He clearly said why in the video. If there is an accident the driver can't communicate to police or first responders. Its a safety issue.

A 10 year old child understands the problems with this and could explain it to you, but you’re so fricking stupid you still wouldn’t understand.

You’re not a serious person

And this same fricking idiot who sees no problem with this will argue you down that getting a state issued ID by a person who speaks fluent English is damn near impossible for some.

Guaranteed.

In the summer of 2019, a trucker lost his brakes dropping out of the Rockies into Denver. He drove past two runaway truck escape ramps. He couldn't read the many warning signs (some not universal) because he doesn't read or speak English. He caused a 28-vehicle accident and killed four people. He injured a pregnant woman.

These signs are not universal. As a 26-year trucker, I can tell you that if you can't read these, you can find yourself in big trouble.

Also, as someone else here mentioned, you need to be able to communicate clearly during an emergency.

This.....

quote:

Federal regulations mandate that CDL holders be able to read and speak English well enough to converse with the public, understand traffic signs and signals, respond to official inquiries, and complete reports and records.

Im surprised the person, the city, and the state who issued licenses to these people who went on to have accidents are not a feeding frenzy for all the ambulance chasing lawyers out there. They have truly violated federal law and lit the flame for some of these horrific accidents.

I suspect the fault is with the local DMVs issuing these. NO COMPANY would let someone drive their trucks without a CDL, its automatic liability.

Speaking of not universal, the warning signs...

I read a story about some guys traveling Europe. They heard about this scenic drive through the mountains in Bosnia, so they rented a car. It overheated at this mountain pass so they pulled off into this field. People driving by, honking and yelling at them. Then a military vehicle stopped on the road and started yelling at them (they didnt speak the language). All right already, they got in the car and ended up in this village and went in McDs to eat.

Some fella came over and asked if they were the guys on the side of the road. He explained the warning sign was not about the steep grade, it was a warning sign that the field we were in may have unexploded land mines....

I’m usually not talking to people while driving.

What about being able to speak English but unable to read it? What about illiterate Americans?

I have driven in foreign countries with no issues at all.
