Rookie QB's struggle. Shough is no different.

Temper your expectations gents even most of the greats struggled their rookie year. Peyton, Brady, Elway, Marino the list goes on and on.
Unless you are a human cheat code like Jayden Daniels there is a learning curve.

I'm confused. Has anyone truly had high expectations this year for Shough?

Marino only started half the season, but he still made the pro bowl and was second team all-NFL his rookie year.

And all of those guys, except for Brady, were All Americans in college. And Brady won the Super Bowl in year 2.
So just imagine what the learning curve might be for the 5th-6th best QB in the ACC?

But the selling point was supposed to be that he was mature and ready to play. I've come to grips with it so I won't bitch incessantly about it like some others but they probably should've used 40 elsewhere, especially since it's entirely possible both Shough and Rattler are total afterthoughts by late April 2026.

Rookies that end up being good/great QBs usually flash during their rookie year even if they make mistakes.
If a rookie flashes elite talent, it almost doesn't matter what the ultimate performance is.
Rattler last year really didn't get anything going. That's not necessarily the end of his story, but there was not much from last year that would indicate success moving forward. That's yet to come...or won't come at all.

The odds are none of our QBs are good enough to be long term starters. Our roster is riddle with below average talent. The little talent we have is aging fast.

Tyler just sucks stop with the excuses. If Saints drafted Shedeur you all would be calling for him to be cut.

Both QBs are unbeaten at this point. What are you foaming at the mouth about?

It’s becoming clearer by the day that they shoujd have picked someone else. I said this was why it was stupid drafting him at his age. He was going to struggle with the speed of the game as a rookie no matter what.
So you won’t know exactly what you have with him until next year. Problem is, if we suck this year and pick high, do you want to pass up a top tier qb prospect to give Shough a fair shot next year? If so we just blew a top 40 pick that could be starting somewhere else.

My expectations were that we wasted a pick and he sucks. I might be right

Why you state as a fact we won't know about Tyler till next year is amazing.
So tell us all why Tyler is not going to start any games this year?

It can. But other than Allen, the other guys you listed were from a much different era of football. Rookies QBs are entering the league more advanced and more game ready than ever. Often times, the good ones are flashing pretty quickly...even if they aren't finished products. See Burrow, Herbert, Lawrence, Stroud, Daniels, even Nix to some degree. The compare them with guys like Lance, Fields, Jones, Wilson, Pickett, Richardson, who didn't show many signs early and still haven't done anything of note in their careers.
I hope Shough is the best QB the Saints have ever had. But I just don't see it with 7 years of college and only 1 year of marginally good production. I think he's a guy that got pushed up the board because of a weak QB class and the Saints were a team that desperately needs a QB.

You can’t judge a qb on his rookie year, so you really don’t know what you have until at least his 2nd year.
Brees even got benched and had his replacement drafted his first couple years.
So if he doesn’t start this year or sucks when he does, what do you do about next year? Draft another qb high?

I wouldn't say there is nothing there from rattler. That Washington game showed that he is capable of getting his team back into a game.
When I think of lost causes I think of someone like an Ian Book that just had nothing there. Rattler can rally a team at least
