Lapping people in the polls at 50%.
Next guy is Nipple Rings Cuomo at 22%.
Republican Sliwa at 13%.
Current mayor Adams at 7%.
Reported on tv by Fox News a few minutes ago.

What exactly is this guy's appeal? Are there really that many unintelligent people in NYC?

The only way Democrats can keep their party from electing Marxists is to cheat them out of the electoral process, see e.g., Bernie's Presidential bids.
Muh move to the middle.

This is why we have elections.
The people get what they vote for.
It’s actually is a great system.

Glaring indictment of the stupidity of the Left...

He's a young, energetic guy who understands social media and uses it well, and is someone who actually appears to like living in New York. Cuomo is a sex pest, Adams is a crook and Silwa is crazy. It isn't like he will be able to rule-by-decree or something if elected. There is a long way between winning the election and even getting any of his major ideas implemented.

I don't exactly get what the oh, in that case point is supposed to be with this.
Does that portend something better or worse, for where things are headed?

He’s the mayor they deserve.

Mamdani has a presence, and a certain charismatic charm, which overrides the speciousness of his economic plans for the improvement of New York.
His greatest asset is the corruption and/or hollowness of his opposition.

What else could it reference?

What if it portends nothing meaningful? Again, it isn't as though Mamdani can rule-by-decree. He still has to participate with political bodies and entities in New York to get major aspects of what he wants implemented.
This is also an extension of my argument that it is better to include socialists and communists in the government structure than it is to specifically exclude them, because as soon as they deal with the grinding reality and difficulty of actual political work, they tend to moderate their rhetoric somewhat. Mamdani can promise something like the Vienna model of rent control all he wants, but he still has to deal with the difficult process of getting several disparate entities to agree to allow for its implementation.

Populist
all the Blue states have shifted to the Right since 2020. Democrats lost some House races in 2022 that cost them the majority.
his over-performance in NYC is significant, some of these voters went for Trump just last year

"Alexa, what would a leading indicator be that the NYC elections are more fricked up than a football bat?"
