John Hartwell, the Athletic Director of the University of Louisiana Monroe, announced his resignation on August 4. Hartwell has served as the university’s AD since February 2023. Hartwell will be pursuing other professional opportunities.
“I am grateful for the support of our student athletes, coaches, senior staff, donors, alumni and all of Warhawk nation,” said Hartwell.
“We deeply appreciate what John has done for ULM Athletics over the last few seasons and wish him and his family all the best,” said ULM President Dr. Carrie L. Castille. “There is a plan in place, and we will be making that plan known as soon as the logistics are finalized. My commitment to ULM Athletics and the Sun Belt Conference is unwavering, and we will continue to find ways to win on the field, on the court, in the community, and in the classroom.”
The announcement of an interim Athletic Director and plans for the future of ULM Athletics will be forthcoming.

ULM AD is surely the worst job in college athletics.

What are the chances he simply took the job at Troy and it's nothing beyond that?

Could be. Buddy told me he apparently wasn’t a fan of the tech add as well

Massive loss for ULM. However, I did hear he was spraying money out of a fire hose that ULM didn't have.

To be fair spending anything is probably spending money we don’t have

So was the interview with Aaron Dietrich 3D chess to piss off other SB schools and position them against Tech? (I dont mean this sarcastically, that would be some wild politics to pull a stunt like that and we know the eastern teams were pissed about that interview)

La Tech got the votes because the west didn’t want and eastern add.
ULM and Louisiana would never publicly say anything other than they support the add. All system universities will publicly support each other, even though they often work against each other in private.
ULM had previously requested to be a football only member and the SBC off denied that request.

I've heard from someone who is a little more connected than I am that dropping down may very well happen.

It is true, with the NIL settlement and NIL as a whole, many FBS programs will die off.

I'm sure there will be some snarky comment being I'm saying this on the heels of our University President stepping down and the audit stuff, but pretty much any G6 athletic program in Louisiana, not named Tulane, is going to have to do this to keep being competitive in their conference.
Cajuns, LA Tech and ULM all gotta figure something out fast, because our conference mates, especially those in the East, ain't playing around.

The UL System has got to take advantage of a friendly face in the governors mansion and get the ability to implement a fee without a student vote.

People on this board have told me that ULM would be even worse off financially if they were in the FCS. So how would that help?

You talking about the guy who rented a circus cat for an LSU game?
