quote:

Texas House Democratic Caucus Chair Gene Wu brushed off Gov. Greg Abbott’s (R) threat to remove Democrats from the Texas Legislature after they left the Lone Star State in protest of GOP redistricting efforts.

“Frankly, Democrats say, ‘Come and take it,’” Wu told CNN’s John Berman in an interview Monday, referring to threats against lawmakers’ seats.

The Democratic state House minority leader reshared a post highlighting his remarks on the social platform X.

Wu said he doesn’t think Abbott’s threat will amount to much.

“No, it’s all bluster,” Wu said when asked if he thinks the governor could be successful in taking away Democratic legislators’ seats. “Sound and fury signifying nothing.”

Come 3:00pm the ball is in your court Governor Abbott.

Narrator- provoked and uninspired by Wu’s bluster, the Governor did, in fact, go and take it.

It would be pretty funny if the DNC lawyers missed a by-law that actually allowed Abbott to do it though

I’ve been swamped at work and not up to speed…

Does Abbott really have a mechanism to do something? I thought there wasn’t anything on the books to be done about these stupid games?

Sadly, I think he's right. When it comes to nut-cutting time GOPers always shy away.

When paychecks are passed out….the Dems won’t get one and they cannot use campaign funds to replace the missing checks. Recent Texas law.

Do they have to claim free room and board as campaign contributions? I thought they had a billionaire who was funding their relocation.

If Abbott backs down here, he’ll prove he’s nothing more than a toothless, yellow bellied, milquetoast.

It isn’t state law it’s the AG’s opinion. I hope it holds water but they will have to find the correct judge.

It will be appealed all the way to the SC and take at least a year, maybe two. Meanwhile anything those replacements vote on will be seen as illegitimate and likely to be erased. A new redistricting map passed by replacements would be tied up in court even longer, well past the mid-terms which makes all of this pointless.

Touche, but either way I doubt he quoted that without some sort of legal backing and the positive outcome likelihood assessed.
