Jury Duty

Yes, I was dumb enough to not try to get out of it. I wanted to see what it was like. Civic duty and curiosity and all that. It was a civil case; contract dispute between a retired couple and a small business owner. About ~$250k on the line. The jury unanimously found for the small business owner, and I think we made the right decision. The retired couple weren't bad people, just stupid af and kinda entitled. Their lawyer was a d-bag and didn't present much of anything to the jury but appeals to our emotions, which even the slowest person on the jury saw through. But I feel bad for the retired couple anyway. That's a lot of money for old people, even if they're probably loaded to have gotten themselves in the position they were in.
Anyone else ever do jury duty and feel bad for the people that lost, even though the correct decision was reached?

Who was the d bag lawyer?

Only time I made it through and actually made a jury, it was for a DUI.
It was interesting seeing how everything worked, but the case was boring.

Only time I got selected the defense attorney removed me with one of his exemptions. I think it was solely because I had played softball with one of the cops involved a decade earlier.

My only jury duty was criminal / child molester / school case.
He is rotting in a 45-year sentence.
My head rests well at night.

Did jury duty for a murder case. One of the jurors with us was a literal thard. We reached a verdict that was appropriate somehow. Good times despite what it could have been and it was an eye opening experience.
That's all I got. I wouldn't share too many details of the case publicly

Need more details on the case

I've only ever been selected for the grand jury at the county level. I got cut for a personal injury case, I'm pretty sure because I raised my hand when the plaintiff's attorney asked who thought back injuries could be faked.
I actually enjoyed the grand jury experience. It opens your eyes to just how much shite goes on around you on a given day. From the wild and evil to the mundane.

What was the contract? And what exactly were they suing for?

I'd rather not say, but it was in LC and the dude kept madly refreshing his phone and chuckling to himself. Very odd.
I'm kidding. Phones weren't allowed. It was a dude from MS that is licensed in both LA and MS because the retired couple was from MS but it happened in LA. Full-on MS cotton-pickin' corn pone bs persona, like a bad caricature of what someone would expect a lawyer from MS to act like. I wouldn't believe it if I hadn't spent a week watching it. But I'm not going to name him, sorry.

Wouldn’t all or most of that be public record anyway?

The thin venire of justice.

Was on a criminal case once and put a guy away for nearly 30 years. It was interesting to say the least.

I would really enjoy being on a jury but I’ve never been selected. I’ve had to call in twice to see if I had to report, but it was canceled both times. Once for Orleans parish and once for Federal for the Southwest district?

I’ve always gotten cut. I assume because of my profession.

That’s just awesome you were picked for a case
The few times I’ve been called for jury duty I’ve always just sat in the gathering room and waited. I’d rather be picked for a case.

Who doesn’t get out of jury duty? Got called for it once and was there 1hr before I got out of it.

I’ve heard Cleo Fields’ brother’s stupid joke three times. Maybe it has to do with living in East Baton Rouge parish.
