Sold a few hundred thousand dollars in XOM stock at around 120 a share a year ago. I was hoping to see it fall under a 100 a share but it doesn’t seem to be trending in that direction. It’s currently at 111… would it be dumb to buy back now? I like my dividends and want them back. Lol

I know there’s no guarantee with anything stock market related. I tried to look at some forecasts and it doesn’t show any fall off anytime soon.

I think it’s more important to relate the stock price to earnings

It just fell to $107/$108 a week or two ago. It seems to bounce between $108-$113 lately.

I just don’t see it going anywhere. It’s not going to increase earning a greatly. You might get up around $120 or so again but you’re just as likely to get below $100. And I’d bet on $80 before I bet on $140

IF you think XOM is a company that owning a share of the business for the long term is reasonable, then buy it.

If you think XOM is not a good business, sell it.

Buy based on value, not price.
Sell based on value, not price.

Over a long period of time, my best investments have been the companies I’ve owned shares of who continuously were able to raise the dividend.

Exxon and Chevron lowest profit in 4 years, however these behemoths will be probably looking to more acquisitions if we have a prolonged energy slump.

Near term with OPEC+ looks pretty bad, might be a good time to revisit acquiring more shares slowly as they stay depressed

The ex dividend date is August 15. Stockholders of record on that date will receive the dividend. I’m watching it very closely too . I have a lot of it and plan to sell some when it hits 115. The shares I haven now were purchased at 103.

I too sold a lot at the peak (appx $121/share), but kept half of my position. I do not plan on buying any more of it ever again and will ride along collecting my dividends on my remaining shares. I don’t see it going too much higher in the near future. Also, I’m a geezer.

I agree here with the potential for Exxon and Chevron to grow. Both have been managing to the lower oil price environment to create some low end safety, but will always be a victim to low oil prices.

I think Chevron with their win in arbitration has more room to grow in and also provide a healthier dividend. If you want to get back into oil and gas, both companies should have some upside - just find a good entry point. But like others have said, never wrong to take profits if they are there.

I sold almost all of it before Covid… bought it back at 38 dollars a share and sold it at 121ish a year or so ago. I wish I had more money to play with then.

I’m just worried about buying at this price. Historically it’s hovered around 80-90, but maybe those days are long gone. Really wish it would split like it used to in the 90’s

Exxon will continue to make money. Guyana is huge and them and the other big boys are acting as an unofficial cartel onshore US. I consider them a low risk investment
