Family Ski Trip Ideas

Kids (ages 12 & 15( are wanting to go skiing this year and I am trying to make it happen. Kids and I are beginner to intermediate skiers, wife sustained an injury a few years ago and has no interest in skiing. Kids have been one time to Steamboat a couple of years ago and had fun.
Would appreciate suggestions on destination options that won't completely break the bank, have plenty of beginner terrain have a decent "town" area with restaurants for the wife. Reasonable flights from BR or NOLA would also help.
A friend mentioned Whitefish so may check that out.
Appreciate any input
Would likely go for 4-6 days over Mardi Gras.

Thisll probably get downvoted to hell but, ski resorts in Europe are so much cheaper than the states when it comes to lift tickets, etc. If you're going for a week it may be worth looking into. BA has direct flights to London and your one stop from anywhere in Europe.
If you're looking to stay stateside, I like Park City and Breckenridge.

Ski town vibes with things to do for the wife-
Breckenridge CO, Jackson WY, Vail CO, Steamboat CO, Park City UT, maybe Bend OR
Easiness for trails- Breck, Vail, Steamboat, Park City, Mt Bachelor
Won't break the bank- Ehhhh. Can at least find decently cheap flights to Denver or Salt Lake City, but skiing at any of these resorts is going to be pricey. I'll say I've found decent hotel prices in Jackson WY and Bend OR, but CO has gotten pricey in the towns. Also forgot you want to go over Mardi gras, flights are going to be a bit higher

It's still quite the haul from DEN to any of the resorts. You can go from the terminal at SLC to being on the slopes in under an hour.

Oh I know, but at least theres a bunch of nonstops from MSY to DEN. Only one or two nonstops to SLC so Delta jacks up the price a bit there
And if they're going to connect, they may as well go somewhere cheaper and more unique than Denver/CO

Winter Park - fly into Denver and it's a short drive. Stay slope-side for easy food, the town of Fraser is a 5-10 min drive if you want the amenities of a small town (movie theater, bowling, etc.)

This is what I'm doing next year. Flights that I couldn't find good redemptions on to Montana run like $750 each.
Business class points to Europe with cash outlay less than that and then can ski for less.
Trying one of those all inclusive ski places in France. Ski school for kids included.

Let me know how it is, have heard good things about the ski schools for kids. We have friends that live in Denver but the husband is German and the wives were talking about a European ski trip with the littles in the next year or two.

They could totally wuss out. Not exactly dependable moods.

Banff is an option, flights are a bit more expensive but once you are there the exchange rate is going to make things very reasonable. Sunshine Village is a great spot for intermediates, amazing scenery and Banff offers everything you'll find at other ski towns.
Bachelor is another solid option that Cuse brought up, Schweitzer in Idaho may be another worth looking into as well but the town is more limited.

Red River or Angel Fire in New Mexico won’t break the bank but a ski trip anywhere is going to at the least dent it up a little. I think Red River may have more of a town but our recent experience has been at Angel Fire. We’ve really enjoyed it.

Look into Angel Fire Resort. Super kid friendly. Or even go further north to Red River.

I went through this research last year, although my kids are much younger, and we knew they weren't going to appreciate a fancy trip. We landed on Steamboat and had a good trip. Pretty easy and affordable flights in, easy to get transport to the mountain, good bus system to get you around town. Overall a good value ski trip with fun skiing and activities at the base. I'd suggest you look into it and compare pricing to the other choices on your list. I found it to be 30-40% cheaper than the other options when factoring flights and hotel.
ETA: look at Vacasa website and specifically the Torian Plum. Great location and value in my opinion. Even cheaper as you go up the side of the mountain and Vacasa runs a fantastic shuttle service.

south lake tahoe might be an option. you can probably get hotel rooms (sunday-thursday) at a decent rate. fly into reno or sacremento. my cheap ski trip years ago was to fly into san francisco and drive IH80 over to reno. stay at reno hilton for 29.00 a night and then drive over to truckee (1 HOUR) and ski at northstar. not real hard but great views of lake tahoe. those were the days.

My wife texted me this morning saying she wants to go skiing 12/20-23 with Jr. and her parents. Looks like I'm on the hunt for a last minute trip

Thanks guys. Any tips for lift ticket pricing? We would probably only ski 2-3 days out of the 5 that we would be gone.

The market on those is pretty locked down. Really comes down to what resort you pic as far as pricing is concerned.

Depends on the resort but if they are Epic or Ikon the time to buy is now.
