Going to probably be staying downtown at the Marriott since the conference is there. Going with the lady for a conference for her in September. I’ll be working a bit, but will venture out for lunch and early beers/cocktails.

Also, some dinner spots to check out. Doesn’t really matter the cuisine. Casual and fine dining… Steak, Italian, seafood, sushi, local joints etc…

Saw that on some older threads. There wasn’t anything recent showing. That’s why I started a new one.

Will be staying right around the corner.

Don't base where you go on internet reviews, the ones who leave those like attention and also like to complain more than like something. Walk around Reading Terminal (if that's where you are), look at the food, and pick a place with a longer line (go back earlier the next day). I forget which place it was, but I did this last time I was there and had the best steak sandwich of the trip from there.

Monk's is truly one of the best beer bars in the country.

McGillins is just an old bar very close to you but is fine to hang at.

Independence beer garden, PHS pop up garden at south street are both good hang out spots.

For dinner, anything over near Rittenhouse/Fitler Square will be fine. Places like Parc, the Dandelion you should be able to get into. Friday, Saturday, Sunday. Vernick. Zahav. Vetri. All tremendous dinner spots. It is a really great food city.

Please keep in mind its been about 6 years since i have lived in philly so i cant speak for current quality, but i doubt much changed.

for your immediate vicinity.

Reading term market is a great place to see and has a lot of food options. DiNic roast pork is an iconic sandwich for the area. Its very good and worth a try at least once. I would argue the better sandwich is actually at Besh's cajun. They make a sandwich called the trainwrek po-boy. Its my favorite "cheesesteak" in philly. I saw recently maybe the quality has gone down, i certainly hope not because previously, it was a mighty sandwich.

Another good spot for lunch or even dinner, especially if youre a burger man would be Village whiskey. Great drinks and their burgers are top notch. This was a Jose Garces joint when it opened, dont know if he still owns it.

As another posted mentioned Monk's is probably one of the best beer spots you are going to find. There food option are pretty decent and everyone loves the various mussels dishes there.

The dandelion is my wife's favorite restaurant in philly. English inspired foods. The rabbit pie is a very good and popular choice there.

If you like German food and beer look no further Bauhaus Schmitz. Classic German dishes like pork shanks, various sausages, dumplings, etc. All German beers, mugs the size of your head. Cool atmosphere, big german hall feel. I REALLY wish Louisiana had place like this.

If you and the lady want some interesting cocktails, the Hop Sing Laundromat is very close to you, and a dim sum eatery not far from that. Hop Sing is pretentious and kinda fussy, its a "speak easy". So be prepared for that. If you just go with it and have fun there's always good cocktails there (but expensive).

Frankford hall is a bit of a distance form your stay so would need to use the subway or cab/uber. Its a very cool outdoor beer garden. Food is pretty limited with standard bar far like burgers. But if its a nice fall evening, the outside atmosphere is very cool.

There really is a ton of options with very few misses. if you got a place you want ask about fire away.

Appreciate all the info boys!

Went ahead and booked the Marriott Downtown since the conference is there.

Wish we could’ve caught a Phillies game, but they start when we land on Sunday. Then the play away the next few days.

Agreed on Dinic's in Reading Terminal.

I did a cheesesteak crawl over a 3-day span and the cheesesteak at John's Roast Pork was the best I found.

We always go to the Victor Cafe. The servers are opera singers with the Philadelphia Opera and they take turns performing every 20 minutes or so. My favorite server/singer is Eva. The first time we went she was a server assistant and I asked the manager if he would let her sing. He did and her voice was so beautiful, it moved me to tears (I’m sure the cocktails played a part too). Very small Italian spot—-reservations recommended.
