Have the Saints ever had an elite TE besides Jimmy Graham?

Our TE history seems pretty abysmal at first glance.

Would Shockey be considered elite? He’s good but not elite in my opinion.

Benjamin Watson was good but not great when he played for the Saints.

Coby Fleener was a total bust with the Saints and sucked.

Henry Childs made a pro bowl was very solid. If Archie would’ve had more time to throw could’ve put up elite numbers for the 70s.

Wesley Walls was considered top tier, but they let him go to Carolina.

Cam Cleeland definitely could’ve been if it weren’t for injuries.

Yea I still can’t figure why/how this happened.

Name multiple franchises with multiple elite level tight ends? To be fair the tight end position has really been revolutionized as the passing game did. Tight ends were expected to block for most of the history of the nfl. Guys like Sharp,Gonzales, Gates, Dallas Clark really changed the game. Other than the chiefs it’s hard to name teams that have multiple guys like that.

Yes, so about 4. Out of 32 teams? This is a weird thread about a position that has been revolutionized in the last 30 years. Saints have had 1. Shockey was good not great. So we’ve basically had one less elite tight ends than 4 franchises?

Hoby is right up there as one of my all time favorite Saints players. He just checked all the boxes what you'd want from your TE. Pro Bowl '87
