What team or teams have the most valuable resources to get what they want and need?
Posted on 7/25/25 at 12:42 pm to Tiger Ugly
Cubs, Red Sox, Mariners jump out tier 1 to that question IMO
All have some organization depth at positions with controlled big leaguers already that could allow them to move prospects.
Dodgers always have 15 top 100 prospects somehow as well

Rays (Always a wildcard)
They'll do that thing where they sell and somehow still get better this season

Guards, Royals, Twins, Cardinals (Lumping all together. Probably should sell)
Helsley, Maton, and Matz should all be on the trade block.
Someone like the Yankees or Dodgers that need both relief help and 3rd base help could take Arrenado and a reliever in a package deal with some lower minors prospects in return.
The Cardinals will want a near MLB ready starter, and the Yankees have them, but if a team will take on Nado's contract, they're not going to give up too much in return. Getting rid of the contract and having a little more 40 man flexibility would be nice.

With the Parades hamstring injury, I wonder if Houston restarts those conversations. It seemed like they had a deal agreed upon back in the winter before Nolan balked at it and Astros moved on.
Probably wouldn’t have the prospect juice to get them to throw in Helsley but a Maton reunion would be intriguing

Yankees just traded for McMahon, so I would imagine that takes them out for Arenado. I wouldn’t be surprised to see the Dodgers go after him and try to do exactly what you proposed.
Philly also needs relief pitching and seemed pretty fixated on getting Arenado last offseason provided they could trade Bohm, but who knows if that is still the case

I think the issue would be whether you’re comfortable playing Paredes at 2B for the next couple years after this since both would still be under contract (and Walker at 1B)
Paredes has been a better defensive 3B than I expected but I still cringe a little at the thought of him playing middle infield

That’s right forgot Nolan wasn’t just a rental, disregard that then doesn’t make much sense because personally, I think Paredes needs to stay at a corner.
shite I’ve been butchering his name, think it’s just because I’ve been calling him Isaac

I figured a Nado-Maton pairing is more likely than with Helsley, because they're going to want to get as much out of Helsley as possible and you limit that with Nado's contract.
Maton has been throwing the best and, IMO, provides the most immediate help. But teams want a capital "C" Closer, without regard to how Helsley seems to be making it harder than it needs to be every game and has blown a bunch of saves this season.

Cards will still get a nice haul for Helsley I think. Every single team buying at least pokes around relievers and few available have his combo of stuff and track record
Posted on 7/25/25 at 12:58 pm to ShaneTheLegLechler
The way Maton has been throwing just reinforces my opinion that fringe to non-competitive teams should sign mid level relieves to short term contracts every year simply with the intention of trading them at the deadline and getting prospects in return.
The return may not always be great, but the investment is generally relatively small, and the demand for relief pitching is ALWAYS there.

Cardinals should be selling, they have several guys who could bring back a haul.
Gray
Helsley
Matz
Romero
And anyone else. Not named jj weatherholt

quote:Griffin Herring part of the package. Hate this as a Yankees fan because Herring has been tearing up A ball this year, even though he won't make a difference this year. Also hate it as a yankees fan because the last LSU prospect we traded was Josh Smith, who would be probably be a top 3-5 bat on the team, while also being able to play all 4 infield positions.
Yankees just traded for McMahon
Hate it for Herring because he has to pitch in Colorado.

So the Price on Suarez must be insane huh? Yankees didnt even hold out. Already moved on with almost a week to go.

Yankees get a slight upgrade offensively, defensively Peraza was actually better it seems. Issue is they have a ton of LH hitters now.

McMahon has been terrible this year. Good move on the Rockies. Was surprised the yankees wanted him!
