Southerns restaurant is heading to the northshore. The award-winning fried chicken sandwich purveyors started out with a tent at New Orleans markets and festivals before building out a fleet of food trucks during the pandemic and, last year, opening their first brick-and-mortar location in Metairie. Now, co-founders Gene Colley and Anthony Cruz are preparing to open their second location in Hammond in mid-September, with plans to offer reduced prices for customers there and pursue further expansion, without the need for loans or investors.

That’s when they found the Hammond location — a former Qdoba a few minutes from Southeastern Louisiana University’s campus at 1720 West Thomas St.

At first, Cruz said, he didn’t know much about the city. “In my mind, Hammond's a tiny little town,” he said. “So we go look at it, and I'm thinking it's a waste of time to drive it out there. And when we get there, I'm like, ‘Oh, wow. It's perfect.’”
that's right

Used to be a food truck that would go to local breweries in NOLA and sometimes travel to Tin Roof. Fantastic chicken sandwiches. Can pick your spice level. Cracklins are incredible. Very tender.

My favorite chicken sandwich in NOLA. Bonafried is the only place that gives them a run for their money.

They have a smoker out back and do awesome weekly specials every week too.

Could be the Hammond connection. They used to post up at Gnarly Barley which is about 2 blocks from there.

I guess I never noticed, I’ve not eaten at an izzos. Hopefully this place is good. The seafood place behind it where coop de ville used to be started strong but was terrible the last time I went. Hammond could use something new

It’s awesome. Probably my favorite fried chicken sandwich, not that I eat them frequently. They do a lot of specials that are very good too. Last time I went I had a bahn mi made with smoked pastrami.

While I definitely agree with you, I think we're pretty set on chicken sandwich places.

Agreed, it’s my guilty pleasure for lunch in Metairie. But the chicken sandwiches are awesome
