Authorities said that around 10 p.m., airport personnel spotted a "suspicious" item that resembled a grenade on the X-ray screen during a security screening, a TSA spokesperson said.
The item was found in a family's luggage, according to Houston police. The family had reportedly obtained the item as a souvenir.
The Houston Bomb Squad confiscated the item. There were no charges or arrests from the incident. Police said there were no injuries or evacuations due to the incident.
Security screening procedures were put on hold for about two hours while authorities investigated the incident. Checkpoint 40 was shut down temporarily "to ensure the safety of airport staff and personnel." The temporary closures were a precautionary measure, a spokesperson for TSA said.

TSA took out and made me throw away my coca cola Thermal detenators from Galaxy's Edge.
I get what it looks like. But if it's empty it should be fine. It wasn't.
I feel the same for a used pinapple grenade. I have a couple and they cut the bottom so they can't be filled and they remove the explosives and the trigger. Its really a paper weight at that point.

My mother once ran a loaded 357 magnum through airport scanner in her purse.
That was 40+ years ago.
Today she'd be in prison for that.

i had a loaded mag for my 45 in a backpack i brought as a carry on. leftover from a random range day in an obscure pocket. they took all the ammo out and told me i could keep the mag if i could put it in my checked baggage but it woulda made me late for the flight so i told em to just toss it.
amazed they confiscated paper weights and a cocacola bottle but i guess the idea behind it is even if its not active you could still hold a plane hostage with it if they believed it was real?

I used to wear spicebimb cologne for a long time, I bought one of these at the duty-free shop at the Calgary airport, and their equivalent of TSA tried to confiscate the thing and I had about a five minute argument with the agent that I literally bought the cologne 50 feet away in their duty-free shop

It just seems best to avoid the high risk of a headache related to getting grenade like items through security checkpoint

Hopefully they don’t call in LAPD to deal with it

"Thank you, you're very kind."

If you were in a duty free shop, weren’t you already through security?

Replica grenade led to charter bus evacuation, bomb threat call in Plano
Police X-ray confirms grenade was inert; passenger who owned the bag says it was a replica owned by his grandfather.
An inert replica grenade found in an abandoned bag led to the evacuation of a charter bus and a response from the Plano bomb squad on Monday morning.
According to police, they were called to a gas station near the corner of Spring Creek Parkway and U.S. Highway 75, where a Flixbus charter bus had stopped in the parking lot.
Police said Monday afternoon the driver discovered the bag while loading passengers and their luggage. When the driver opened the bag, he reported finding a grenade inside.
The driver called the police and the Plano Police Department's Hazardous Devices Unit responded. The bus was evacuated and traffic was stopped on adjacent roads while police investigated the device.
From Texas Sky Ranger, just before noon, a member of the bomb squad was seen working near the bag while wearing a blast suit.
Meanwhile, officials confirmed that the bag belonged to a passenger from the previous day. The passenger was contacted and he told officials the grenade was an inert war replica that had belonged to his grandfather.
