Reports indicate a significant reduction in the IRS workforce, with approximately 26,000 employees leaving the agency between January and June of 2025. This represents a 25% decrease in the IRS workforce since January when Donald Trump began his second term as president. This reduction includes:
Probationary employees: 7,315 probationary employees received termination notices.
Deferred Resignation Program (DRP): 4,128 employees were approved for the initial DRP, which allows employees to voluntarily resign and receive paid administrative leave through September 30, 2025.
Other Separations: An additional 3,093 employees left the agency through resignations, retirements, or other terminations.
Reductions in Force (RIF): 294 employees received termination notices as part of a reduction in force.
These workforce reductions are being implemented through various actions, including a government-wide hiring freeze, RIFs, attrition, removals for misconduct or poor performance, separating reemployed annuitants, and letting temporary positions expire.
The cuts have disproportionately affected certain IRS business units and job positions, including:
Tax Exempt & Government Entities (TE/GE): Lost 31% of its workforce.
Large Business & International (LB&I): Lost 25% of its workforce.
Revenue Agents: The number of revenue agents declined by approximately 31%.
These workforce cuts have raised concerns about their potential impact on taxpayer services and the agency's ability to administer the tax code and collect taxes, especially from high-income and high-wealth taxpayers. The National Taxpayer Advocate has warned that these cuts could have a "catastrophic impact" on the upcoming filing season

Lawsuits incoming.
“ERMAGERD!!! I WAS ENTITLED TO THAT JOB!!!”
And some activist district judge, looking for his 15 minutes and street cred in the Democratic Party, will say “frick the Supremes” and side with them.

Yea, like ALL OF THEM!
The federal government has no business anywhere near my income stream.

This is what I voted for.
Good to see such a large percentage of the fired are “revenue agents”
They should be thankful they don’t live in the era where “revenue agents” got tarred and feathered

There should be no need for this because none of this should exist

Yay!
26k families affected. Let’s rejoice in the misery of those folks. SMH
I get the disdain for the agency, but to gloat over people losing their income is mean-spirited at best.
Do better. Be better.

People in the real world lose their jobs every day. In more meaningful and productive employment than this.
Where’s your energy for them?

"Fired" is an interesting term to use. They incentivized early retirement for a number of them, and then offered another program for those close but outside of retirement age.

According to IRS records, 25,386 employees separated, took a deferred resignation program (DRP) offer from the Trump administration, or used some other incentive to leave, TIGTA said. Another 294 employees were sent termination notices as part of a reduction in force.

In reality, very few of those were actually “fired”. Most just got a big incentive to just go ahead and retire. And the positions are simply not being backfilled.

Settle down Shirley. Fired is a DJT term I felt appropriate. Sorry if your panties are now twisted.

So is this an admission that you’re a sleazy hood rat and welfare cheat?
I mean, I don’t think anyone would be too surprised.
