Ozzy vs Ossie Brown

Anybody else growing up in Baton Rouge in the early 80s remember this “feud”?
Ossie would thunder on about how he’d arrest Ozzie if he ever set foot in this town, and Ozzy was all like: “Who the frick are you again?”

For the benefit of those who weren’t in Baton Rouge in the 1980-1984 timeframe: Ossie Brown was the dictatorial, Bible-thumping District Attorney of East Baton Rouge Parish, who went on a public crusade against Ozzy (and AC/DC, Rick James, and anyone else he thought could get him some publicity) in that period. He’s pretty much the reason that to this day, we get very few decent shows in Baton Rouge anymore.

He stopped the showing of Monty Python's Life of Brian for a good while.

Yes. I almost forgot about that one.

I don’t remember this but that seemed to happen a lot back in the day. frick 1st amendment. People think shits bad now. Back then you could bend the law and you would barely get noticed. Could you imagine them going to shut down a concert now because they don’t like what they are singing about.

Yeah, and it was all based on publicity nonsense. That stunt by Ossie Brown ended up costing BR big time in concerts afterwards as well. That wasn’t a coincidence.

Ossie was quite the hypocrite as well, IMO.

Indicted on corruption charges himself in the late 80s, as I recall. He was acquitted, but everyone knew.

Not defending but I don’t remember that at all.
Also what was funny was one of his kids had a pot plant growing in his backyard.

Sole reason that most of us never got to see Randy play live. The true crime.

I know the one.
I have friends who went to school with him. Said he was one of the biggest jellyheads at Woodlawn High. And back then, that was saying a lot.

The District Attorney for the 19th JDC (EBRP) is the most powerful of all the DA’s for a variety of reasons. Mostly because of jurisdiction over certain crimes given to him by law. Hint: The Capital is in the 19th JDC for the uneducated.

My mistake - the indictment was in 1984 (I thought it was later) and for extortion - federal charges

And in 1982, that meant jack-shite to Ozzy Osbourne. It meant he would’ve had to play New Orleans instead of Baton Rouge.

Also, he wasn't going to let them have the Broadway Show "HAIR"either because the cast all got naked at the end. So, they told us they would perform.............then at the end of the show when the parachute rose, all were butt naked. Don't remember how Ossie reacted to that.

It was a big ole crusade and was in the news regularly back then.
