do you have an exhaust fan in the room? I don’t and my ceiling looks like that but I am going to fix it when I gut it

in any event, bleach or vinegar will kill it but it will come back if you don’t address the moisture issue

That's real common in bathrooms.

I'd just put some diluted bleach on a cloth and kill/remove it.

How's the ventilation in there?

Ventilation is not good. There is no A/C vent. That particular is very rarely used.

Leave the door open when not being used.

I bet it is lack of ventilation issue or a leaking plumbing stack rubber gasket.

What should I do? Put a fan in there? Put a dehumidifier? Should I have someone rip it all out?

You could have a vent installed if you want. There's not much mold there. Just wipe it with bleach as needed is another option.

As previous poster said, check in attic above that there is no water from AC pan, roof leak, or plumbing issue.

Don't freak out. Likely not anything toxic.

Should be fine spot cleaning.

Get a cheap-ish hygrometer to monitor humidity in that bathroom. Make sure it's routinely below 60%.

Depending on what your readings are should determine how extensive your solutions are. Whether it's just leaving the door open, putting some damp-rid containers in there, or a dehumidifier.

Tilex mild and mildew. Spray it good and let it sit till it dries itself. Then spray again and wipe.

The bathroom needs a good vent that exhausts out the home, and let it run for a while after someone showers.

Hydrogen Peroxide is better to use than bleach or vinegar. Bleach will actually prompt and spore bloom in mold.

Agree not to use bleach (especially diluted). Bleach is 90% water. Water/moisture is what’s causing the mold to colonize in that area. Putting bleach (basically water) on wood or drywall will remove it on the surface, but seep into the substrate…..creating more mold. Glass or tile, go ahead and wipe it off, not your ceiling though. Wouldn’t use peroxide either. Mold should be removed by an anti-microbial, which you can get from any big box store. Just know it will come back without fixing the ventilation problem, as others have stated.

My advice, add a vent and use it. Slap some Kilz on it and repaint. It doesn’t look too bad. If you or anyone in your family has a severe mold allergy, then I’d cut the area out and patch. Good luck and hope this helps!

Quick Google search says RMR 141 is an antimicrobial, RMR 86 is not.

Guess what you have is for non porous substrates and shouldn’t be used on your ceiling.

I sprayed it a couple of times with RMR 141. So far, not seeing it go away.
