Can you help me understand how open wheel F1 cars can race in a total downpour but NASCAR can’t go in a bit of rain. I seriously don’t understand.

Road course or oval track?
It's insane to race ovals in the rain.

So why not get some and run the damn race?

Same for Indy. Sack up and let’s go. F1 is competition and this just reinforces the perception that the Indy and NASCAR drivers can’t hack weather.

And these guys are gonna wreck each other three more times before the finish anyway.

There are no rain tires in closed race cars unless they are on a street course.

Also, in the case of Dover, it's concrete. And it has absolutely no grip when wet.

ETA: My fault. Rain tires are used at Martinsville, Loudon, and Richmond.

I thought Chicago got delayed the last two years for weather

He almost smoked the wall in his celebration. That would’ve been 3.

Not this year.

And what's it matter? You.come off like an ignorant open-wheel snob

Also, Cup cars are a hell of a lot heavier than Indy/F1 cars

Huh? I was literally bagging on Indy car for the same thing. My buddies and I used to go to Indy every year. I am just trying to understand why F1 will race in rain but the others cannot.

F1 is built for versatility in weather, while NASCAR’s design and track characteristics make rain racing riskier and less practical, especially on ovals.

How many F1 races have you seen on an oval?

Indy runs in the rain. So does NASCAR. Just like F1 they do so on road courses.

Ovals it depends on the banking. Flatter ovals like New Hampshire, Richmond, Martinsville, you can run rain tires. Tracks with a higher banking like Dover, Bristol, Daytona, they cannot. Far too dangerous.

Road courses they can run in the wet. They won’t run in the rain. If the visibility is near zero, they can’t do it.

Definitely isn’t just perception.

Yeah. People who haven’t seen it in person don’t realize how banked it is.

i was able to get onto the daytona track, and some old school 1/2 mile concrete track that was abandoned many years ago. the banking is incredible.
