I learned a 150 dollar lesson yesterday. I have a nice 2020 car and it has an app that I make sure it’s locked every night before I go to bed. (Been robbed a good bit so either leave cars unlocked with nothing in them or locked)

I had those modern 500 bucks a set keys and only one keyhole on the car that’s hidden behind the driver door handle apparently for emergencies and a little stick key that u pop out of the fob to open the door.

Anyway, apparently I left something on and the battery died no big deal right. But the fob and app obviously wouldn’t work but I had no idea that the stick key wouldn’t work either.

Since, the damn stick key would not open the door, I couldn’t jump the car off or even open the hood to recharge the battery. (I wasn’t even sure WTF was going on at that point, and the manufacturer wanted me to have it towed into the dealership, frick that)

So I had to call pop-a-lock to unlock the damn car. From a dead battery

You did something wrong to not open it. No way, for safety reasons, would they allow a car door not to be opened if the battery is dead.

Mind telling us the make and model?

Agreed…I would get in touch with the manufacturer (not the dealership) to try and figure out what went wrong.

Good grief.

Maybe consider moving.

That’s what I thought, but apparently some problem with these cars. I made the popalock guy try with the stick key too first too make sure I wasn’t fricking it up or anything. You could turn it all the way but the lock wouldn’t engage or pop up. He said it is not supposed to do that. Once the battery was charged it worked fine???? Apparently, my car has to have some charge or doors will not open.

It’s a 2020 Lexus RX-350 fairly loaded. Never had an issue with it until this, and it’s been a very dependable good driving car

You should let your husband handle that next time.

Wow, shocking the dude who was about to take you over the coals to unlock your door didn’t just unlock it with a key. Hard to believe!

I live in Springhill, in Mobile. That’s an area that’s openly mocked for being affluent etc. Multiple million dollars homes are everywhere. It’s doesn’t matter where u live in Mobile they will rob your cars. I actually ran down them a few years ago. It’s typically kids etc.

You should pop the hood, disconnect the battery, then try it again after watching this video.

Please for the love of God report back!!

Read it again, the key in the fob would not open the fricking door

Because of the Indian, not the arrow

We got dudes in here readily admitting they can’t unlock a fricking door with a key and then doubling down on it.

Some things are just better to not share

When you used the stick key did you pull on the little latch at the front bottom of the door handle?

Did you locate the manual handle under the handle?

Did you try it with the key still already turned to the right? Looks like that needs to happen as well. Some cars you just turn the key and it unlocks. You turn the key back to remove the key and you can still open the door. Here the key is still in the lock turned to the right when they open it.

That’s exactly what I did, but you just pull the door up no piece pulls up. Again the key completely and fully turned but the lock wouldn’t not pop up and it would not unlock the door. I even spayed some lockese on it but it still didn’t work. On my car you have to have some battery juice, I have no idea on wherever it’s just my car as in a mismanufacre, it’s a model or lot problem or something has happened to my car. But the fob key will not open the fricking door when the battery is dead
