Good luck. My wife went through the treatment. A couple of weeks in the hospital and several more with a specialist. Smelled like crap. Praying for you brother. Not a good situation.

Wouldn't any flushing/cleansing of a wound be debriding?

My Girlfriend had it done on her lower legs… after she got some infection from a lake.

She was in the hospital for a few days. This was about two years ago. Everything healed good and it like it never happened.

Had a bad burn accident on my arm when I was 5.

The recommendation was to debride - with an iron scrub brush - my arm every night for 6 weeks to remove the new skin, and keep the wound fresh until the underlying layer healed. This was the 80s, not sure this is kosher now

So, without fail and with a wooden dowl in my mouth, my mom would proceed to leave the house then my dad would scrub my arm. Every Night. Scrub until it was bleeding all over the burn.

Have barely a scar today, you have to look close to see just a little bit of discoloration.

True story.

Yes. It sucks so bad.
Honestly i bought painkillers to make it go by better. The second time i needed it. I skipped it and used topicals to debride.
I had a staph on my foot and man that was horrible. I was about to just cut the toe off. Having to get the wound scraped every week drove me crazy.
Worst pain of my life. Was horrible driving to and from the doctor.

I bet you’re glad you asked now, OP.

Had a bad staph infection that had to debrided on my calf from a small scratch I got while rough housing with my dog.

I postponed the doc or er because I thought it was just a small scratch. On day 2 of a 10 Disney vacation had to go to the er. Sweat dripping into the gauze thus into the debrided hole was a special treat.

Lidocaine before debridement will help. The NP can also write an Rx for a small quantity of painkillers.

Might also want to see if they can do ultrasonic debridement.

Did you hate your dad in the moment, but now see how difficult it was for him and respect him more for it?
